    Trying to take a new image/s from the Media Library and put it into my existing gallery of thumbnails (that are also connected to a slide show)

    I set it up some years ago and how to do it has changed! I can perfectly well get stuff into the Media Gallery, but how to get it from there to the thumbnails is defeating me! The magic word ADD doesn’t seem to be anywhere. I keep panicking as I see huge versions pop onto the page.
    I highlight the thumbnails but it doesn’t take the hint! I am no techie so if you could tell me, please make it simple! I will be enormously grateful as I have spent hours on the basis of trial ane error. Thanks. Julia

    Hi again,

    I have added your theme, twenty-ten to my site to try this out. It isn’t super easy to explain, but I will try, and you can ask me if you don’t understand. But I have figured it out :)

    Select the page or post you want to edit. Once you are in the edit area click on the area with the gallery. This should highlight the area with a light grey box, and also you should see a small box at the top with a pencil icon and a X. Click on the pencil icon. This will bring you to a new area with your pictures. At the top, on the left hand side, it will say <– Media Library. Select this and it will take you to another area with your media. All of the pictures that are currently in your gallery will be highlighted with numbers, this is where you will select your new images to add to the gallery. After you have selected them, choose continue at the bottom, and then Update on the next page. Be sure to update the final page or post.

    I think that is exactly what I did (bit by bit!) and it only threw up the image large.
    It did seem the logical thing to do but as it didn’t work on Review I didn’t save for fear I wouldn’t get back…get stuck with it.
    And yes, I did highlight the thumbnails. I think I ‘updated’ because I think that was the point that stuck the image on the page…but big across the top. Why on earth can’t they make these thing simpler! At least I didn’t save. I did it all more than once! There must be some small detail I am missing.
    I’ll try again tomorrow…and let you know…although I expect you will have had enough!

    There is a place to select how the photos in the gallery show up. On the right hand side after you select the new images, it will show a menu where you can select from a drop down menu. There should be options for thumbnail, etc

    I just wrote you a longish message only to be told it had failed! That sort of day!
    I think I have got it but not without many mishaps! I managed to delete the whole gallery at one point! Trouble is it is so complicated to reverse!
    Hopefully I will be able to remember.
