Follow button not working

  • I have created a blog using the Ideation and Intent theme. The follow button appears to not be working properly as a couple of people have said that they chose to follow my blog, provided their e-mail addresses and confirmed through their mail received but they do not show up in my stats and do not receive notifications of new posts. It is only if they select the following option for a second time on the blog that they show up on my stats. Any help on this will be much appreciated.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • I don’t see a follow blog widget on your blog.

You can set up email subscriptions here > Appearance > Widgets > Follow Blog Widgets by using this guide > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/

If you would like a follow button to appear on the bottom right hand corner of your site for those who do not have WordPress.com accounts go to > Settings > Reading and scroll down to Follower Settings:

These settings change emails sent from your blog to followers.
Logged out users __ Show follow button to logged out users.

Checking this will present a follow button to logged out users in the bottom corner of their screen.

Find Friends Who Use WordPress > http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2012/05/01/find-friends/

You can customize the contact form with multiple fields, change the email address where you’ll be notified, and mark feedbacks as spam from your dashboard. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/

  • Hello timethief, I followed your advice bellow because I have the same problem but follow button still doesn’t appear on my site: chetlifestyle.wordpress.com

“If you would like a follow button to appear on the bottom right hand corner of your site for those who do not have WordPress.com accounts go to > Settings > Reading and scroll down to Follower Settings:

  • Hi, thank you but I think that I did everything in the right way. My blog is in the Twenty Eleven Theme and I suspect that this is the problem.

  • Howdy,

Your Follow button is appearing as expected for me: https://cloudup.com/cOOlrDAugkT

When you’re logged into WordPress.com, a Follow button won’t appear in the bottom-right, but does appear on the Admin Bar at the top. When you’re logged out, the Admin Bar doesn’t appear, but the Follow Button does appear.

If you have any questions or need anything else, please let me know. Thanks!

  • Hi all,

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated! My issue was not really with the follow button not being there, but rather that it seems to not be working properly. When people (not logged on to wordpress) click on the follow button it seems that sometimes the request is not sent through. Only when they do it a second or third time do I get the notification and they appear on my stats. I suspect that this might be a browser/theme compatibility issue. Is there any known issues with the Ideation and Intent theme regarding this?

    Thanks!

  • If they’re entering their e-mail address, as a logged-out user, they would receive an e-mail that needs to be clicked to accept the subscription (to prevent anyone from signing up folks without permission).

If the new subscribers aren’t clicking on the message in that e-mail, they aren’t subscribed, so it wouldn’t notify you or add to your stats.

The most common cause would be the e-mail confirming the subscriptions are either going to a spam folder or being “hidden” (in the case of Gmail’s relatively new “Social” tab).

There aren’t any known issues with the theme or browser issues currently. I’ll ask the team to keep an eye out for reports and see if we can duplicate an issue.

    Thanks!

  • Hi kraftbj,
Now I know where to search the follow button. :-) It’s so small and grey that I don’t think that non-WordPress-users will find it. Can I put this button somwhere on the main side? I generated a follow button to insert it in other websites maybe I could put somehow into the blog. (?)

  • Sure—the follow button you generated is a relatively new experiment, but we have a “Follow Blog” widget that you can add to your site bar. Logged in users will have a link (like the follow button on the top admin bar currently) while logged out users will have an e-mail submission form).

You can add the “Follow Blog” widget from your Appearance->Widgets settings page at https://craftbrewers.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.php

If you have any questions or need anything else, please let me know. Cheers!
