Featured Content Boxes

  • Curious if there a way to make my three featured content boxes on the homepage link to categories instead of linking to pages? is there a way to manipulate it in the backend to do this?

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi @nicholetteblog!

The Featured Content section of the ixion theme will only link to posts/pages with the correct tag – and it isn’t possible to tag a category.

But… you could use the Display Posts Shortcode on the pages you’re currently linking to.

For example, if you use this on your “Music” page, you’ll get a listing of posts from the Music category, with the excerpts displayed:

    [display-posts category="music" include_excerpt="true"]

There are other parameters you can use to fine tune the shortcode as well. They’re all described on the support page :)

  • Thanks so much Chad!! You are the best!!

  • my blog initially had the pictures displaying at the top with the subject of the blog in the six images all together with two pictures at the bottom with separate subject underneath. Now it has gone upside down and the bottom two subjects have been placed at the top and the 6 images have gone to the bottom how can i fix this and put them back to the tom

  • @nicholetteblog

    Happy to help! :)

It looks like you switched themes a few times, so some items may have gotten moved around during that process.

Your site is currently using the Gazette theme. If that is the theme you want to be using, you can follow the steps on this page to control which posts are where on the home page:
    https://wordpress.com/themes/gazette

If you open up My Site > Customize > Featured Content, you can set the tag that is used for the top section of the home page.

Place this tag on the six posts you’d like to see in the top section – if you put the tag on more than six, you’ll get the most recent ones shown.

The bottom section of the page will be your other posts, listed in three columns :)

  • Is there a tutorial to take me step by step in making my site have the same feel as Ixion?

I am trying to figure out how to emulate the three featured boxes especially.

  • Hi @jasonpreagan!

There is! Each theme has setup instructions on it’s info page. Ixion’s is here: http://wordpress.com/themes/ixion

  • Ohhhhhh

I saw that page but was too brain addled to scroll down. Muchas gracias.

  • Hi I’m not able to add the three featured post that I want to add on hair styling and fashion photograph. My website is fashionconnoisseurs.com

It says that your theme supports up to 3 posts in its featured content area. But i’m not able to add the second and third once the first one is up.

  • @fashionmostwanted,

    Hi,

I presume you’re referring to the Ixion theme. The Featured Content section of the Ixion theme guide says:

Featured Content is shown on the front page below the Site Tagline area. To add a post or page to Featured Content, give it the tag “featured,” or another tag of your choosing set from Customize → Featured Content.

Your “featured” tag archives page, https://fashionconnoisseurs.com/tag/featured/, contains only one post, “Fashion Photography Services.” That means it’s the only post that has the “featured” tag assigned. Whatever tag you set as the featured content tag must be assigned to every featured content post.

  • I would like to change the order of my featured boxes, but I do not see an option to order them. There is an “order” box in the bottom, but they do not respond upon updating. Any help appreciated!

  • Hi @fixrestorationstudio!

If you are also using the Ixion theme, the Featured Content boxes are listed by date – with the most recently published item appearing first.

You can edit the publication date by clicking on the gear icon in the editor (next to where it says Published over on the left hand side).

Then click on the date and use the calendar to adjust as needed :)
