  im thinking of moving my blog off wordpress.com to my own hosted site..

  is it possible to export the blog contents somehow ? thanks.

  It did, but referring to it as ‘backup’ rather than ‘export’ may have confused you. A search may also turn up some useful threads, as this topic comes up a lot.
