Every Click on Dashboard Leads to Website Redirecting

  • Dear WordPress Support team,

I have this website built on WordPress: zeniuseducation.com.
I need to access articles posted on that site.

However, every time I click on whatever menu on the Dashboard, I’m always redirected to zenius.net website.

Would you help me to provide direction on how to un-redirect my website.
    I’d appreciate your help.

    Thanks in advance.

The site I need help with is [visible only to staff] (email visible only to moderators and staff). It is not hosted by WordPress.com, but it is connected with Jetpack.

  • We can’t help you as your site isn’t running on the wordpress.com platform but uses the open source wordpress.org. Their support is at https://wordpress.org/support/

  • I’m sorry if I haven’t made myself clear in the original post.

In wordpress.com we have a site with domain zeniuseducationcom.wpcomstaging.com

    we own zeniuseducation.com domain.
About 1 year ago, we set the nameservers for zeniuseducation.com to ns1.wordpress.com, ns2.wordpress.com, etc.

Here’s a specific problem encountered in our dashboard for

Every time we want to see the posts by clicking Posts in zeniuseducationcom.wpcomstaging.com
    , the url is https://zeniuseducationcom.wpcomstaging.com/wp-admin/edit.php?return=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.com%2Fhome%2Fzeniuseducationcom.wpcomstaging.com

but it is always redirected to

    https://www.zenius.net/zeniuseducation.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fzeniuseducationcom.wpcomstaging.com%2Fwp-admin%2Fedit.php%3Freturn%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fwordpress.com%252Fhome%252Fzeniuseducationcom.wpcomstaging.com

Maybe there were problems with Plugins but again, if we try to access Plugins in the dashboard, we always get directed to zenius.net.

We suspect that the problem is in the DNS configuration for zeniuseducation.com which nameservers are already pointed to wordpress.com.

  • Hi there,

Your name servers for zeniuseducation.com are pointed to us, but there’s no domain mapping upgrade on our end that’s connecting the domain to any site on WordPress.com. So I don’t think that’s relevant to the issue, nor do we have any control at all over that domain. If you don’t want it to point here any more, you’ll need to update the name servers at your domain provider to point it wherever you want to host it now.

As for the wpcomstaging URL is redirecting to zenius.net, it looks like you had a redirection plugin on that site, and I’m guessing it made changes to the database or site configuration files that persists even after the Business Plan was removed and the plugin stopped working.

If you don’t plan on using the Business Plan with us any more, the simplest way to fix this is to revert your site back to how it was before you installed any plugins on it. That will return it to the original example.wordpress.com address instead of the wpcomstaging.com address.

There is a risk that some content on the site may be lost if we do this, so I’ll need you to confirm before we can do that.

  • Hello Kokkieh,

thank you for the detailed information especially regarding the now inactive business plan.

if I reactivate the business plan, it would be easier to get the old content from the site right?

If it is easier by reactivating business plan, then I strongly consider to use business plan.

    Yours,

  • Hi there,

if I reactivate the business plan, it would be easier to get the old content from the site right?

Yes, if you upgrade the wpcomstaging site on your account to Business, you will be able to reactivate the plugins that were active before. That will bring back the content you had on your site. You can also restore to an earlier point in time using the restore feature as mentioned here: https://wordpress.com/support/restore/#restoring-from-a-backup

    Hope that helps.
