I have a domain registered elsewhere(godaddy) that I mapped to wordpress and set up email forwarding as well. I have renewed the registration with godaddy but allowed my wordpress mapping to expire. I now want to close down my wordpress account all together and set up my site (and email forwarding) on squarespace. What do I need to do on WordPress to enable this switch?

Hi there, I see no active domain mapping or anything that needs to be cancelled or removed here on your account.

You will have to go to Godaddy and point your domain nameservers to Squarespace. Squarespace will be able to tell you the nameservers. The following link will likely be helpful although I would suggest contacting Squarespace to verify.
