Embedding Youtube Video in RSS Feed
-
Hello, I am having an issue with my RSS feed. My embedded videos, using the code (bracket)Youtube=(url)(bracket), show up fine on the blog, but appear as small thumbnails on my RSS feed. Vodpod videos do not appear at all in the feed.
Link to the RSS feed is here: http://artgame.wordpress.com/feed
This appears to be a fundamental issue with the feed, and not a reader issue, as the videos appear in thumbnails even when the feed is accessed directly in the browser. The videos also appear this way in my feedburner feed and my google reader (whether it’s looking at feedburner or the direct wordpress link).
Any idea why my embedded videos don’t work in the feed? Is there a different embed code I can use, or some setting I can change, to get the videos to appear?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It looks as though you have your feed set to “Summary”. Try using the “full text” and see if that produces the video. http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/reading-settings/
Also, if I remember correctly, any change to the feed will happen when you publish the next new post and won’t change the feed for the older posts.

The site is currently set to “Full text”. It was set to “Summary” earlier in the day, but I tried posting something new after switching back, and the issue is still occurring.
Is this a basic thing with how WordPress.com handles RSS? Has anyone successfully embedded Youtube videos in their RSS feed?

Actually, after playing around a little more I see that if I view the wordpress feed directly, I just see thumbnails. If I view the wordpress feed in Google Reader, I see the videos embedded correctly, but only sometimes. If I view the feedburner either directly or in Google Reader, I see only thumbnails. Ideally I would like to see the videos embedded correctly in all formats, especially the direct wordpress feed, as this seems to be the root of the problem.

As far as I know, YouTubes have ALWAYS been stripped out of WordPress.com feeds. Other than what you’ve already found, the feeds are not configurable.

The one thing to remember is that RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It purpose has never been to reproduce your blog in its entirety – especially when it comes to high-bandwidth stuff such as videos.

OK. Thanks for the help. That was what I had assumed. I find it strange that Google Reader restores the Youtube videos when it is looking at the wordpress RSS feed, but not at the feedburner feed, but that will probably remain a mystery to me.
