Email woes from Hover

  • Hello, I have an email account & domain through Hover and use this domain for my WordPress site. No matter how many guides I follow, documentation I read, WordPress just refuses to let me use this email.
I really need to get this connected to the account so I can make my ‘Inbound Form’ plugin to work!
Not a networking noob, someone please help me resolve this issue.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there! Checking your domain findagig.info appears to be hosted at A2Hosting so would you please let us know the domain you want to point to your WordPress.com website?

Please provide us more details about the issue you encountered and I’ll be happy to help you!

  • The domain that I want to point at my WordPress website is the findagig.info hosted on hover.
I was lead to believe that in order to use my hover domain with WordPress I needed to update my dns setting at hover to point to my a2hosting servers in order to be able to reach it. I did that, and am able to reach my WordPress site, but have a feeling that wasn’t the right information.
Was I suppose to point my hover domain somewhere else?

Hover – domain and email (dns points to a2hosting here)
a2hosting- WordPress Server (got my WPadmin cred. through here)
    – Updated my mail server in cPanel to point at hover mail domain so I still receive mail.

Was this an incorrect implementation? Part of me feels maybe I should point my hover domain at WordPress instead? This would probably fix my SSL cert from not registering secure as well?

  • Hello,

    Now I understand the situation – you don’t have a WordPress.com account/website/blog – you have a self-managed WordPress installation hosted at A2Hosting.

As I understand, the domain findagig.info has been registered with Hover and now you want to use that domain to load the website (WordPress) you created on A2Hosting servers.

Checking the domain, at this moment you’re using the following name servers:

    ns1.a2hosting.com
    ns2.a2hosting.com

however, as per A2Hosting Knowledge Base, you should use all of them not only 2. A2Hosting have 4 name servers:

    ns1.a2hosting.com
    ns2.a2hosting.com
    ns3.a2hosting.com
    ns4.a2hosting.com

so the first step would be to add at Hover all of them not only 2.

Further checking the DNS records for findagig.info I see that the MX record is still pointed to Hover :

    10 mx.hover.com.cust.hostedemail.com

This means that your website loads data from A2Hosting server but for e-mail use Hover servers – is this what you want? Or you want to use A2Hosting for mail as well?

If you want to use A2Hosting for mail as well, check with A2Hosting support and they will update your account DNS file with the proper settings ( or you can do this from cPanel > Advanced Zone Editor )

NOTE: you can continue to use mail from Hover but on the A2Hosting servers, you should update the mail exchanger from local to remote. ( technical detail, you should check with support if you want this ).

In order to fix the SSL issue, you must update all your website links from http:// to https:// this way your website will load all the resources via SSL protocol and your SSL certificate will work properly, without any warnings.

I hope I was able to help you and I want to let you know as well that this forum is for WordPress.com support and not for WordPress.org. The WordPress.org support forum can be accessed here: https://wordpress.org/support/

WordPress is a publishing platform that makes it easy for anyone to publish online, and proudly powers millions of websites. It comes in two flavors: the fully hosted WordPress.com, and the self-hosted version, whose software is available for free at WordPress.org.

In your case, you have a self-hosted WordPress installation and this is why I gave you the WordPress.org support forum link :)

    Have a great day!
