Editing Tags and Categories in WordPress.com
-
I’ve recently noticed that there’s a typo in one of the categories in my blog. I used to be able to navigate to the Dashboard, open the Settings tab, go to the Writing settings, and edit/delete tags and categories directly. Now that option seems to have disappeared. I’ve gone to the Settings menu from what passes for the Dashboard since the latest revamp, but I can’t find an option to edit or delete existing data. Please tell me how to go about it – or reintroduce the old-style Dashboard, which was a helluva lot easier to use.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The Admin login link to the dashboard for every blog hosted by wordpress.COM is:
http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
* You will have to replace “name_of_blog” with your actual blog’s name in that URL.
If the log-in information is lost you need to visit https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
1. To edit or delete a category assigned to a post (whether it’s a draft or has already been published), go to Dashboard → Posts → All Posts in your dashboard, hover over the title and click the Edit link. To delete the post click the Trash link.
For editing post in the new editor see https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/#go-back-and-edit-posts
2. To edit/delete categories in your dashboard go to Dashboard → Posts → Categories

3. To edit or delete dynamic category pages from your custom menu go to Dashboard > Appearance > Menus

4. To edit or delete Tags go to http://cynonvalleyquizleague.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=post_tag

We have two user interfaces now and two editors. I use only the classic editor, and not the new so-called “improved” editor.
The Admin login link to the dashboard for every blog hosted by wordpress.COM is:
http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
* You will have to replace “name_of_blog” with your actual blog’s name in that URL
You cannot deactivate the new editor but you do not have to use it.
On the dashboard of your own blog at
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New*http://REPLACE_WITH_ ACTUAL _NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php
To create posts in the classic editor for you that link is:
http://cynonvalleyquizleague.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php
On the dashboard of your own blog at
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts one can hover over any post title and click the Edit link. and proceed with editing.*http://REPLACE_WITH_ ACTUAL _NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php
To edit posts in the classic editor go to
http://cynonvalleyquizleague.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php
Hope this helps and best wishes with your blog.

Oh, thank you so much, Time Thief! I was on the verge of shutting everything down and taking my stuff elsewhere.
I wish I’d known about this little workaround six months ago, before I abandoned my eight-year-old personal blog for something a little less user-hostile.
Why isn’t this information made more conspicuous on the Help menus, so that users don’t have to climb up their own orifices trying to find it?

The answer to that is simple. Staff want us all to use the new editor and not the classic editor. T%hat is why they removed the link to the classic editor from the dashboard and presumably one day they will remove the classic editor completely. I no longer blog at all since the 2 year roller coaster ride we were on to introduce the new editor for mobile access. To read the official version go to:

Tell me about it! One step forward and three back … Many thanks again for your input. All the best. :-)

Yes indeed. WordPress.com has to accommodate everyone all over the world using whatever device they have to keep pace with business realities. To long time desktop bloggers this has been a royal PITA roller coaster ride and the message about trying the new improved editor on the dashboard felt like a slap in the face, because it now takes longer to do everything and it’s not an improvement for us at all.

I relocated to Bl****r a few months ago. Everything seems to run so much more smoothly, it’s far more responsive, and you don’t have to jump through endless hoops to accomplish simple tasks. In fact, it reminds me of why I liked WP back in the good old days. Rückwärts durch Technik, as they don’t say in Germany. All the best to you – might see you on the Dark Side. ;-)

Yes, it’s sad isn’t it. I started as a Blogspot blogger over 10 years ago and was delighted when I accepted the invitation to be a wordpress.com blogger. Now I don’t have the will to jump through any hoops to do what can be done on a blogspot blog easily here. I lost my enthusiasm entirely. On the bright side I’m now enjoying taking up other hobbies again. I gave them all up when I fell down the wordpress.com rabbit hole.
I’m no longer rabbit-like. I’m more akin to being a lone coyote. :)
