Edit Facebook information on "Sharing-Publicize" page

    Hello,

I need to edit incorrect information for the Facebook connection on a blog I’ve created for a friend.

I started this blog as an additional blog under my account. When I had it nearly ready, I transferred it to her site (using login information she gave me so I could get her started), but now when I’m in her account and try to change the “Sharing – Publicize” information for Facebook, MY link shows up instead of hers.

I can’t figure out how to get back to the ORIGINAL LOGIN FORM for this networking site to make the change to the correct information. Can you help?

    Thank you.

Disconnect Publicize, flush your Facebook cache, and then reconnect it to the correct page/profile.

    Hi,

Thanks for your quick response and suggestion. Unfortunately, even after doing that, when I click on the Facebook icon, I’m still getting the popup instead of the little form that gives me the opportunity to change my settings.

Any other suggestions? I’m open to ’em all!

    Cheers

    Hi again,

Sorry, that note from Prajnatara was actually me again, on the blog I’m setting up for her.

If anyone is planning to respond, could you respond to this one, please? That way it will go to my email address and not hers. [I’m supposed to be the web-literate person here, if you can imagine that! :-) ]

    Cheers,

    Howdy,

You may also need to edit/remove the WordPress.com app from the Facebook account you connected to.

    1. If you haven’t, please disconnect Facebook from your WordPress.com site in the Settings->Sharing page on your Dashboard.
    2. Then, in the Facebook account that you’re having the issue with, click on the Gear icon in the top-right and click “Account Settings”.
    3. On the page that opens, click the Apps item on the left-nav bar (see https://cloudup.com/ctnQ6VDJvMX )
    4. Find the WordPress.com App and click Edit ( https://cloudup.com/cUhH5IWzDEg ). That’ll give you some options to change things around. If that’s not enough, you can click “Close” (assuming you’re in the “Edit” mode), and click the X to remove the app completely from your account.
    5. After all of that fun, go back to your WordPress.com site and reconnect Facebook.

It’s possible that you won’t need to disconnect FB, but I still suggest it to be sure that the settings are being cleared out.

If you have any questions or need anything else, please let me know!

    Hi again,

Just so that you know, I’ve done the things you suggested (which are also suggested in the Support area) many, many times, and this particular process simply didn’t ever work in this case.

What I finally wound up having to do was go into my Facebook and LinkedIn accounts and CANCEL THEM!

This has — finally — freed up Prajnatara’s links so that on her sharing page, she can insert her own information where required, and her name and gravatar will show up instead of mine. Whew!

Of course I’ve lost both my accounts in the process, so I’ll be starting from scratch, but at least everything now works the way it’s supposed to now.

My comment: this does seem like a rather radical “fix.” One thing I can promise is that I’ll never again create a blog for someone else on my own account and then transfer it – some things “stick” and won’t come unstuck!

Thanks for your efforts. I appreciate them.

    Hi Susannah,

That’s odd; I couldn’t recreate what you experienced that deleting the WordPress app from within Facebook and disconnecting Facebook from within WordPress.com wouldn’t resolve the issue.

With Facebook at least, typically, when you deactivate an account, they don’t actually delete it—you can log back in with your e-mail and password to “restore it”. That may still be an option for you. I’m not aware of LinkedIn’s policy/status for deactivated/deleted accounts.

    Thanks!

I thought it was a little strange, myself, that I had to jump through all these hoops – but it certainly solved the problem!

After deactivating my Facebook and LinkedIn accounts, I immediately returned to the WordPress account that was giving me problems. The forms I had been hoping to see popped up on her sharing page, and I filled in my friend’s information and got her blog safely connected to the proper Facebook and LinkedIn pages.

Then I restored my own Facebook account, got all my old material back up (Yay), checked her WordPress blog again to make sure that all was still well (which it was), and went happily back to using my Facebook account again.

The only fly in the ointment was my LinkedIn account, in which only a portion of my previous material came back. But that’s not your problem!

Although your fix didn’t work for me, I’m still grateful for your help and your quick reply, and I’ll gladly use the forum again any time I’m stuck for answers.

My bottom line: Computer programs are strange beasts, and as soon as I begin to think I understand one, it throws something new at me, just to keep me aware of how truly little I know about this aspect of the computer world! :-)
