E-mail triggers log in screen but no longer tied to account

I removed my old e-mail from my wordpress.com and gravatar accounts so I could leave comments without logging in, but I still get log in requests that keep me from leaving comments. I can’t log in because my password is now associated with a new e-mail address. When I enter in my old e-mail address to see if there is something still associated with it, I get an error that there is no user registered with that e-mail.

Is there something I’m missing? I’ve gone through all of the steps to change my e-mail address according to the FAQ. It’s been a few weeks since I did that and I assumed that it might take some time to completely free up my address, but the issue still hasn’t resolved itself.
