Downloaded theme different from installed theme

  • Hey,

I just set up my WordPress.com site on a self hosted Bluehost account. I downloaded the Hemingway Rewritten theme from WordPress.com and installed it on my Bluehost site.

The problem is, it does not look the same as my WordPress.com site. Some of the formatting is different, the colours are different and there are widgets missing.

How do I get the same theme from my WordPress.com site to my new self hosted site?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hello there,

Because you are now using a self-hosted site, the forum that will help you best with you questions would be the one on WordPress.org: https://wordpress.org/support/

The theme you downloaded for the self-hosted site would have been Hemingway: https://wordpress.org/themes/hemingway/

Whereas on WordPress.com hosted sites it is Hemingway Rewritten: https://wordpress.com/theme/hemingway-rewritten

You can get support regarding your self-hosted site’s theme here: https://wordpress.org/support/theme/hemingway

    Hope this helps :)

  • Hi there,

The self-hosted version of your theme won’t look the same as on WordPress.com, no. That’s because we use a completely different version of the theme on WordPress.com, and over here we add some of our own features to the theme that’s not included in the self-hosted version.

On the other hand, on your Bluehost site you can edit the theme files directly or add custom CSS to change the colors if you need to.

Widgets have nothing to do with your theme. Self-hosted WordPress doesn’t have all the widgets that are available on WordPress.com, as most of the widgets here are ones we developed ourselves. If you install and connect the Jetpack plugin on your Bluehost site you’ll get some of the widgets, but not all.
