Don't want my site live yet.

Hi all, hope you’re having a great day.

I know this question has probably been asked a thousand times but, I don’t want my site to go live yet as I’m still designing and producing content for it. I did have a look around for an answer, but nothing seemed to crop up.

I can’t code and my WP experience is a 1-2 out of 10. I’ve only just managed to work out that I need to connect the dashboard to my server and server to my FTP client. Still, I’m getting there, slowly!

Any help would be very much appreciated.

P.S, I have a feeling I’m going to be spending a lot of time on these forums ;-)

Hi @leonjersey – All you need to do is edit your privacy setting on the site. This controls who can view it. Mark it as private until you are finished and ready to launch, and then you can simply uncheck the box to make it go live. Here’s how:

Given that you’re talking about FTP servers, it sounds like the site you’re making might be on WordPress.ORG instead?

In which case, you’ll want to ask your question in their forums, over here:

If your site IS on WordPress.COM, have a read through this support doc:

Thanks lizkarkoski. I think this will do it – “Discourage search engines from indexing this site”.

Hi @writesrealgood, thanks for the info. Nope, I’ve bought a domain name and I am using a webhosting company here in the UK (they pre-installed WP) and I’ve got my own domain name. My novice ability didn’t realise that WP was the control area for my whole site – took me days to work that out!! My FTP client is Filezilla.

My little brain sees it like this….. FTP is home – Server is Travel agent – WP dashboard is my window to the World. Is that about right? :-)

    Many thanks.

Lol, just one domain name! :-)
