If the owner of Pinemont would like to have the third party move the DNS for pinemontauto.com to wordpress and change it to pinemontauto.wordpress.com, how is that accomplished, please?
That is the domain mapping option our volunteers suggested to you at the start.
1) Contact the domain provider where pinemontauto.com is registered, and ask them to point the domain’s name servers to us:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COM
2) On this end, purchase a plan from My Site ->Plans.
3) After adding the plan, go to My Site ->Domains ->Add and select the domain mapping option.
It can take up to 72 hours for the name servers to finish updating, but the domain should start showing the WordPress.com site within a few hours of changing the name servers and adding the mapping upgrade.
Use a Domain You Already Own (Domain Mapping)
Once the name servers are pointed here, you can also edit the DNS to add any MX records needed for email, etc.
If I were to establish a new user name, would I need to use a different email address for the second user name or can I use my current email address?
Each WordPress.com account must have a unique email address. The same address cannot be used for two accounts. However, we do see Gmail aliases created with the +text method as a different address, so you can have an account with the me[at]gmail.com address and a different account at the me+anotheraccount[at]gmail.com

Are free wordpress.com domain names protected or can someone else set up that domain as a .com or .org?
The only way to ensure no one else uses a custom domain is to register it. Owning a free WordPress.com address gives you no automatic claim over any matching custom domains.
Can a small business use a .org domain name or is that only for non profits?
That distinction isn’t used any more. Anyone can use any domain extension for any purpose they choose. The only exception are some country-specific domains that require you to have a presence in that country to be allowed to use the domain extension.
From what I understand, is it correct that a .com or .org domain (without the wordpress.com format) is no longer available as a free site even if it’s a minimal web site with one static single page that does not need the upgrade to 6 GB, etc?
That is correct. Adding a domain to a site requires a paid plan, unless the site in question already has a domain connected to it from before we switched to the plans-only system.

This was a trial web site effort, that, as you may know, has not been published but kept private waiting on the decision of the owner.
