Domain Mapping expired. Options?

  • Hi,

My blog has been inactive for a while, and now my domain mapping has expired (mapping yearfulofsundays.wordpress.com to yearful-of-sundays.com). I do still have the domain name.

I used to be able to renew my domain mapping for $13 annually earlier. But now when I go to My Sites > Plan > Domains > Add Domain, I see I’m required to pay $99 for it, which I don’t want to as I’m not even blogging actively.

    I was wondering:
    1) Is there any other way I can renew it for less? (Maybe WP staff can sometimes extend the grace period for first-time forgetters?!)
    2) If I opt for the Personal plan ($2.99 per month), would that allow me to map my domain name to my WP site?
    3) If I renew it for $99 this once, can I go back to renewing domain mapping for $13 from next year onwards if I do it on time?

Sorry if some of these are strange questions – I’ve had this blog for a while but I’ve been a sporadic WP user at best.

I hope someone can help me out. Thank you!

  • My domain is registered with GoDaddy, by the way.

  • I used to be able to renew my domain mapping for $13 annually earlier.

If you allowed a domain mapping upgrade to expire then be aware that individual domain mapping upgrades were discontinued last year.

Expired means over, dead, done and finished. https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/ We focus on not allowing domains to expire so others can purchase them when they are auctioned off and that’s why we have an auto renew feature. https://en.support.wordpress.com/manage-purchases/#auto-renew

    Staff need details
    1. What is the domain URL?
    2. What is the underlying .wordpress.com URL?
    3. Exactly which username account registered the underlying .wordpress.com blog and purchased the upgrade for it?
    4. When was the upgrade purchased?
    5. When did the refund request and upgrade cancellation, or the domain expiration take place?

  • Hi there,

I was able to map yearful-of-sundays.com for you. You’ll still need to do a few things:

    1) Purchase the subscription here by renewing:
    https://wordpress.com/my-upgrades

    2) If you haven’t done so already, point the domain to our name servers:

    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com
    ns3.wordpress.com

    3) After giving that a few hours to take effect, set the domain as primary under https://wordpress.com/my-domains

Let us know if you need more help!

  • Hi darnelldibbles,
Thank you SO very much! This resolves my issue. I’ve also added a credit card to my account now, so that this doesn’t happen again.

    timethief,
Thanks for your time and suggestions as well.
