  Hi @jessr20 – the free domain with your WordPress.com account is a subdomain of WordPress.com like https://jessr20.wordpress.com for example. Hope this is helpful!

  Thank you for your help, I’ve already gone through that and am having to write a series of blog posts for an assignment, however, it won’t let me launch the blog by using the domain I selected at the start. Is this a feature of wordpress or is there a way to get around this?

  You can launch your site at https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

  If you tried to select a custom domain early on, it will try to continue the sale process since that requires a paid plan. Once you click the launch button, if you’re presented by that, you’ll also be presented with a Free or Skip option.
