Deleting and moving old Parent Categories
I am trying to move posts around my blog, however coming up with the issue where there are old categories, I want to move under Previously watched section, and because earlier I had delete the topic from my category, now the said topic I want to edit is not even under the manage categories, so I am unsure how to move or edit them.
This is my website: http://animemiz.wordpress.com
Actually what I meant was how can you manually edit the Parent Category list? I am editing my blog’s categories, and so far have been moving here and there, and some categories don’t appear as editable, but is under the Category Parent menu.
The second screen casts kinda help, but what about what to do if, there is an issue of trying to move the category from the parent category, and one the category screen is not letting you do it, but if you try to add that same category again, wordpress doesn’t allow you, citing that the category has already been used?
I wonder if it is a glitch for the wordpress team to look at?
Let me see if I have this right. You want to move a “child” category and make it a parent category. Then you want to add the same category again – as a child category? Or you want to switch post categories from one parent to another?
If you have used a category name, then it is in use. If you delete it and want to add it again, you should be able to. Are you saying that WordPress isn’t allowing you to add a category name that you’ve deleted previously? If so, then we’ll look into that further.
But as to what you really want to do, we’re not clear. WordPress.com currently doesn’t offer batch category editing, so you have to edit the posts one by one to change their category, but the Quick Edit feature of WordPress 2.7 definitely speeds up the process so you don’t have to wait through multiple page loads.
Last year I had started to want to change categories around on my blog, and I had by mistake deleted the parent categories from the editable categories set.
I took some screen shots and is indicating it by one, two, three and four.
One and two shows where I want to change the categories from the parent to being a child category, but because I deleted the category from the editable part, it doesn’t allow me now to even change the category.
Looking from some solutions on the forum, I though though to convert the tags to categories, but that didn’t work at all.. so even if the tags have an * next to the tag, it still is not even showing up as an editable category.
Is this enough information about my issue? I have tried several solutions and it doesn’t seem to matter..
My objective is to switch categories from parent to child. I deleted the category name, and disassociated the posts with each of those categories, but wordpress is not allowing me to change a parent category to become a child category, when there is no editable sections to change it.
I’m having the same issue. I manually deleted all my categories about a month ago and two of them continue to show up no matter what I do.
I wonder if this topic is still valid? Any wordpress assistance would be greatly appreciated.
