Delete/rename a category

I made a typo when I created a category, and I need to at least correct this. But I would like to know how to delete a category also. The instructions all over the internet are incorect and may be for a previous version of WordPress. Site admin > posts > categories: hover over it then press delete button.
I am not seeing anything when I hover over the categories.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The Admin login link to the dashboard for every blog hosted by wordpress.COM is:

1. To edit or delete a category assigned to a post (whether it’s a draft or has already been published), go to Dashboard → Posts → All Posts in your dashboard, hover over the title and click the Edit link. To delete the post click the Trash link.

2. To edit/delete categories in your dashboard go to Dashboard → Posts → Categories
