  I deleted my site but didn’t pay attention to the detail that I would lose my domain name, is there any way to recover it? I never received the confirmation email to finalize the process so is there hope that my snazzy domain name (hadn’t gone through with purchasing the site yet just wanted to play around before I spent the money) can be retrieved?

  The original was geekymarathoner.wordpress.com I’m working on creating a brand and would love to keep geekymarathoner and would like to stick solely with WordPress and not have to go through the godaddy.com route

  Maybe you are referring to this .wordpress.com subdomain URL:

  https://geekymarathoner.wordpress.com is no longer available.The authors have deleted this site.

  From the relevant support doc:

  Deleting a site permanently removes it and you’ll never be able to re-use its WordPress.com address (such as yourgroovysite.wordpress.com). https://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/

  Deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and the only exceptions are made are for URLs that were deleted 2 or more years ago. http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/ Multiple warnings are given throughout the deletion process which is permanent and irreversible, and an email with a verification link in it is sent to complete the process.

  You can register another .wordpress.com blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/

  Then if you wish to you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade because it does not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is when you are domain mapping.
