I have an old site that I never wound up using (posted once and forgot about it) but now I’m unable to log into it anymore as it’s not linked to my account. Turns out I had multiple WordPress usernames as well, but none of them have access to the site in question. I’m starting to get comment spam from that site now and I’d like to delete it along with my WordPress accounts. If someone could contact me directly about this that would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello there,

There is actually no need for WordPress.COM Support Staff to respond here, as there is a single means of wordpress.COM account recovery, and this is an Account Recovery issue for those Staff to deal with.

Every WordPress.COM blog has a sole owner. It is the person with the WordPress.COM username account who registered the blog under that username account and a single associated email address, and who is the original Admin of the blogs registered under that username account.

You have to be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard. The Admin login link to the dashboard for every blog hosted by wordpress.COM is:

http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

* You will have to replace “name_of_blog” with the actual blog’s name in that URL.

You can update your email address here https://wordpress.com/me

If you are not logged in under the correct username account then clear your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache and cookies https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-wordpress-com-cookies and then login correctly under the relevant username account.

If you did not register the site under your username account and do not have the required access, then you need to contact the person who registered the account and site under it, and have them act or transfer the site to your username account by using this process. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

If the login information has been lost go to

If you check each and every possible email address and account and are not successful gaining access to the blog(s) then you must complete the form for account recovery at this link https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery and submit it to the Account Recovery Staff, and provide proof ownership, so they can contact you by email ie. not on these public support forums, which are available to everyone with internet access.

Support Staff cannot breach the privacy policy and provide the log-in information. You have to provide proof ownership to Account Recovery Staff to gain access https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/

Additional information:

WordPress.COM Account Recovery is only for WordPress.COM accounts. It cannot be used to recover WordPress.ORG accounts.

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Via email? If so, it means you have access to the email address for the account that owns the site, and that means you should be able to reset the password as explained in the Account Recovery document at the bottom of @timethief’s first reply above.

Please make sure you are logged out of WordPress.com completely when attempting a password reset.

Once you’re logged into the account, you can delete the site via My Site ->Settings, but the username account itself cannot be deleted:

Thanks to all who have responded thus far. Yes, I do have access to the account that the site belonged to, however the account no longer has access to the site itself. In other words I can login but I have no sites to manage – it’s as though that site became orphaned somehow. I eventually found the account recovery form on my own and submitted a request through there two days ago but have yet to hear a response.
