Custom domain name: required?

    I am thinking of upgrading a blog from free to personal, mainly in order to get rid of the ads, but I notice that an upgrade includes a custom domain name. Is that part optional? My blog has been around for a number of years, and I worry that if I change the domain name, all the persons who have visited it in the past will no longer be able to find my site with a new URL. And wouldn’t a new domain name screw up all my cross-reference links?

    When upgrading to a paid plan, adding a custom domain is optional. If you choose to do so, your traffic will be redirected automatically, so you don’t have to worry :)
