Color Customization, Blockquote, & Width Issue

    Hi all,

    I’m looking for some help with my Blogly theme – as you can see, the colors for the tag and category cloud are stuck on the default. I tried working with the custom CSS to no avail – would love feedback on this as well. Also, I’m interested in expanding the width of the entry as well to take up more of the space.

    The blockquotes are completely unattractive as well – any advice for making them appear much, much nicer?

    For non-priority issues – I’m also interested in keeping the header on every page.

    The blog I need help with is

    (You can also see the color issue on the “Follow” button link as well)

    I see what you mean. I think those things should adjust automatically, and I have put in a request to see if we can get it updated so it works better.

    In the mean time, you can use any of the examples below as a workaround until the update request can be reviewed.

    This example will set the tag cloud tag background colors to match their parent elements:

    .widget_tag_cloud a,
    .wp_widget_tag_cloud a {
    	background-color: inherit;
    	color: inherit;

    This is a similar example but changes the background for tags in the tag cloud to a dark turquoise color. You can adjust the color codes as needed if you’d like to change it to something else.

    .widget_tag_cloud a,
    .wp_widget_tag_cloud a {
    	background-color: #357773;
    	color: #fff;

    This will change the background color and hover background color for the button in the follow widget to match how the one in the search widget above it looks:

    html input[type="button"],
    input[type="submit"] {
    	background-color: #646363;
    	border: 1px solid #646363;
    input[type="submit"]:hover {
    	background-color: #98d1cd;
    	border: 1px solid #98d1cd;

    Thank you! I will definitely toy with that some. I can work around the follow button using WP’s default one, and I think I figured out the blockquotes – except the giant font size on the < li > < ul > tags.

    I really appreciate your help :)

    The giant font size in the category cloud? That widget is designed to show categories at different sizes. The most-used categories should show up with a larger font size. Were you wanting to override how the widget is designed to work?

    Do you think maybe you just wanted the categories widget instead? See

    Oh, no – I was talking about the blockquotes when I was talking about the giant font size. I found a CSS style I like, but the < ul > < li > parts are huge. (Example here: )

    Though even in my normal entries, the < ul > < li > entries are smaller – so it’s all a bit weird. (Example here: )

    I’m not sure how it’s so huge in ex 1 but smaller than normal text in ex 2. Gah!

    I see. That’s an intentional part of the theme’s design. It’s a common design element to make the opening quote large like that. You can adjust it with some custom CSS if you’d like.

    Here is an example that will hide it:

    blockquote::before {
    	display: none;

    Or you can make it smaller like this:

    blockquote::before {
    	font-size: 1em;
    	left: 1em;
    	top: .5em;

    You can adjust the values as needed.
