Changed URL -Some things not working

  • About 6 hours ago today, 2/11/2016, I changed the URL for my blog along with user name. I allowed for the old blog URL to remain. Some things are not working.

—The Blog Picture/Icon does not show on the blog.
—The primary site on settings will not stay as to the new blog URL/name.
—Post will not show in reader to followers (I am a follower of my blog).
—The contact form for contacting WordPress Support in settings is not showing… blank boxes.

The new url/blog and primary is:
    https://annalouisevisualart.wordpress.com

I’ve cleared cookies and web stuff. I’ve given this some time. I feel there is a hitch glitch going on.

Any help and look-see will be appreciated.

  • Hello,

The Blog Picture/Icon does not show on the blog.

In your blog’s General settings here http://annalouisevisualart.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-general.php have you uploaded the correct blog picture/icon? I do see that a blog picture/icon is showing before your blog’s title on my browser.

    Screenshot here: https://cloudup.com/cVR1RyImIjg

    Is that the correct one?

The primary site on settings will not stay as to the new blog URL/name.

When you change your Primary Site in your Account settings here https://wordpress.com/me/account, don’t forget to click Save Account Settings.

Post will not show in reader to followers (I am a follower of my blog).

Please make sure that your site must be public and able to be indexed by search engines. You can check it on your My Site’s -> Settings page here: https://wordpress.com/settings/general/annalouisevisualart.wordpress.com

The contact form for contacting WordPress Support in settings is not showing… blank boxes

    .

When I go to https://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/, I just type something general in the Ask a question field like “Reader” and then hit enter. In the “Cant find what you’re looking for?” section at the bottom, click the Get in Touch with Support button. I will either open a chat page or contact support form page.

  • Everything is working now. Thank you for your time and help, elzrjose!

  • I thought everything is working now. When in the reader and clicking on my blog, showing in the reader, it only shows 2 followers. These are recent since the URL/name change. This is incorrect. There are 375 followers. This means that in the reader, only 2 followers are seeing my newest posts. I have the blog open in settings and all the right things ticked/clicked.

Also, I cannot get a support box to contact support. It is still blank no matter what I do in “Get Help.” The box for contact is blank with no functions whatsoever.

There is some type of hangup going on because it took at least 12 hours for the blog to update to show the blog icon. It seems there are still some glitches going on.

I’d appreciate if Support would look into this. I cannot not contact Support and can only post here.

    Thank you.

  • Correction: I cannot contact Support and can only post here.

  • Sorry for the trouble contacting Support. I’ve called Staff’s attention by adding the modlook tag to this thread. Please wait for their reply and click Subscribe to Topic on the right side so that you are notified when they reply.

  • Okay. Thank you for your help, elzrjose.

    Two issues.

    1. Cannot contact Support as the box (or boxes) for contact is blank with no functions whatsoever.

    2. Reader shows only 2 followers in which there are 375 followers. Please see screenshot posted on page at my blog:
    https://annalouisevisualart.wordpress.com/followers-in-wp-reader/

    I’ll await Support reply.

  • Also, to add. Not all posts are showing in the reader.

  • Hi Anna!

    1. Cannot contact Support as the box (or boxes) for contact is blank with no functions whatsoever.

Can you confirm that you’re seeing blank boxes when navigating to the following page?

    https://wordpress.com/help/contact

If so, would you be able to load that same page in another browser and confirm if you also see blank boxes there? If the form loads correctly on another browser, I recommend these initial troubleshooting steps from Google Chrome:

    https://support.google.com/chrome/troubleshooter/6273575?hl=en

Let me know how that goes! I’ll be happy to help troubleshoot further if the issue isn’t resolved from those steps.

    2. Reader shows only 2 followers in which there are 375 followers. Please see screenshot posted on page at my blog:
    https://annalouisevisualart.wordpress.com/followers-in-wp-reader/

I took a look at your blog’s feed in the Reader and can see that the incorrect number of followers is being displayed. I’ve contacted the team behind the Reader to ask them to take a look and fix that for you.

In the meantime, I can assure you that the actual number of followers on your site has not been affected since changing your blog’s address. The issue is only with how the number is displaying in the Reader.

Also, to add. Not all posts are showing in the reader.

I see that your two oldest posts are not displaying the Reader. Can you let me know if you see any others that are missing? I will ask our team about this, also, and let you know what I hear back.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Anna.

I’ve heard back from the team and they’ve fixed the issue. :) You should now see the correct number of followers when viewing your site’s posts in the Reader:

    https://wordpress.com/read/blog/feed/44067393

They also let me know that only posts from the last 60 days are displayed in your feed, which is why some of your older posts are missing there.

Let me know if that’s helpful or if you have any further questions.

  • Hi siobhyb! I appreciate the fix for the followers number!

Yes, the boxes are blank for the contact form.

In Firefox, it states “loading contact form” but never loads.

See my page for screen shot views for Contact in Firefox and Google Chrome:

    https://annalouisevisualart.wordpress.com/wp-contact-form/

    Thank you for your help!

  • Thank you for the helpful screenshots, Anna!

The contact form can’t load correctly when third-party cookies are disabled on your browser. Would you be able to enable your cookies? We have guidance on how to do this here:

    Preview Problems and Third-Party Cookies

Let me know if that helps out.

  • The browser, Google Chrome, that I use is set for third-party cookies. I checked as well as added wordpress as an exception. Also, I disabled Adblock for WordPress. None of this was the cure. Still the same.

    Thank you for your help!

  • Thank you for further testing, Anna.

I’ve asked our team to take a deeper look to see if anything else could be preventing the contact form from loading.

While we wait to hear back, it would be helpful if you can confirm that you’re seeing a message that states the following on our support page for Third Party Cookies: “Great, third party cookies are properly enabled in your browser!”

Here’s a screenshot of with that message highlighted in my own view of that support page:

    Screen Shot 2016 02 15 at 15 16 17

In addition, would be able to temporarily disable Adblock altogether and then see if the form loads? There may be some extra settings that we need to tweak there.

  • Yes, I got the “Great, third party cookies are properly enabled in your browser!”

I disabled Adblock altogether and it did not make a difference.

I appreciate your help with this. Thank you!

  • Would you be able to open Chrome in incognito mode and see if the form loads there? You can find steps on how to open Chrome incognito, in case you’re not sure, here:

    https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95464

All browser extensions are disabled by default while incognito and, if you’re able to load the form there, it will help us to determine whether a browser extension is to blame.

Thank you for being so patient while we troubleshoot possible reasons for the form not loading correctly.

  • Used the incognito and the form does load… all there. I have no idea what Chrome browser extension it is to where the form does not load correctly.

Thank you for all your help!

  • Okay. Just looked again at the extensions I have on just Chrome. AdBlock did not cause any problems. I do have Avira Browser Safety and when disabled, the form loads correctly. Apparently, it is Avira causing the problem. However, I did not have Avira on Firefox and the form wouldn’t load… stuck while loading. That is a mystery. At least I know how to get the form to load correctly by disabling Avira on Chrome.

I really appreciate your time and effort in this, siobhyb!

  • Hi Anna!

I’m glad you were able to pinpoint the extension that was causing the issue here. I installed Avira Browser Safety and was able to replicate.

To fix, you don’t have to disable the extension altogether. Instead, click on the extension’s logo while on the contact page and then select the information about trackers. Unblock Olark (our live chat provider) from there. The form will then load correctly.

As for Firefox, I recommend taking the same steps that you did with Chrome and disabling any browser extensions one by one until you find what’s blocking the form.

We’re right here if extra questions come up. :)

  • I unblocked trackers with Avira while on the contact page and after refreshing the page, the form popped up just fine. Good. Now we know. :)

    Many thanks for your help!

    Case resolved. :)
