Categories and tags not appearing in wordpress editor

Hi, when I enter the wp editor for posts, you can’t edit the tags and categories, or see an existing ones. The titles appear and the icon to expand and close, but nothing else. I looked on forums etc., and they said it could be due to advanced custom posts plugin, so I deactivated it and reactivated it; nothing changed. That said, you can edit the categories and tags in the quick editor still, but I really need access to both.
I’m also unable to add a primary post category, which is a big problem as most posts have multiple categories and I just want the primary one to appear in the listings, not all of them. Can you help please?
