Cannot move blog from blogger to wordpress.com

    I have followed the instructions for this process: generated a .xml file from blogger to my PC – contents look HTMLish; used Import command in wordpress.com. I get this message: ‘Your file has been successfully uploaded. We will begin processing your import right away.’. But no import visible in wordpress. I see others have had this problem. Any answer known?

    Hi there,

    Blogger has two export options – one for the template, and one for a content backup. The file you’re trying to import is the template, what we call a theme on WordPress.com.

    Please see Google’s instructions below to get the correct file. You want to follow the first section – Back up your blog:

    Thanks for quick reply. I have in fact been following the Backup your blog instructions as per your reply. On viewing the .xml file, I can see that the blog content is there, ie the text of my posts is visible in the HTML. The problem seems to be that wordpress.com will not upload that file properly, even though it says it has done so. Any other suggestions or things I might be missing?

    I looked through the file you uploaded to us as well. If I scroll down to the last line I do see some content, but it’s all mashed together into one line without proper spacing and structure.

    The entire rest of the file is CSS, HTML and what appears to be JavaScript code used by your theme. That code cannot be imported here.

    I also tried doing an export of a test site on Blogger. If I do a theme backup and a content backup, everything appearing in the theme backup is included in the content backup as well, so it appears Google made a change on their end to now include the template code in their content backup export, in which case it might no longer be possible to import the file here.

    Based on the answer I found in https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/blogger/hqfN0QH0uzE;context-place=topicsearchin/blogger/export%7Csort:date that seems to be the case

    We have no way to import the file if Blogger doesn’t provide it in the correct format, so please contact Google/Blogger support directly about this to try and get a properly formatted WXR export of your content from them.

    Hmm, I did some more testing on this with the aim of submitting a bug report on our end, and the file from my test site does appear to import correctly, though, so the problem might be specific to your file.
