Cancelling my Domain

  • I recently deleted my site and cancelled my domain, which I’d registered free as part of a premium plan. However, when I now visit the site, it says ‘This page is parked’ which seems to suggest that the domain is still registered to me but just not connected to a website. Is there any way I can delete/cancel the domain now, without having to wait for my registration to expire?

  • Are you talking about https://dafyddmckimm.com/ ?? Are you still expecting to be able to use that particular domain address elsewhere? If you cancelled it at WordPress.com and requested a refund for your Premium plan then you no longer own the domain. To use a domain registered here elsewhere you should have followed these instructions: https://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/transfer-domain-registration/
    Can you clarify what exactly you were trying to do as I see someone has added the modlook tag asking a member of staff to respond.

    You no longer own the domain, no. You gave up ownership when you cancelled it.

    But the domain is still under our control and will be until it expires in August 2019 and passes through the redemption period. If you still want to use it we can restore it to your WordPress.com account, but we cannot manually release it sooner.

    If you want us to restore the domain, we’ll first need to send you a link to pay for the current year’s renewal. Once it’s restored we can then help you point or transfer it to another provider. P

  • I cancelled the domain (along with the premium plan), but I never requested a refund. I was hoping to retain control of the domain and transfer it at a later date, but after cancellation the domain disappeared from My Purchases. Is it possible to get it restored to My Purchases, seeing as I paid for the domain up until its expiry date next year?

  • Ah, you are correct. I see the last renewal payment was in April – as you only cancelled last week it’s beyond the point where we can still issue a late refund for that payment.

    I’ve restored the domain to your account and connected it to your still-active site so you will be able to access its settings at My Site ->Domains.
