blog set to private: people added not able to read?

I’m a total noob to blogging. I have my blog set to private, and have used the add feature to add users. Only one person that I’ve added, out of five, shows up on my dashboard…she’s the only one that has been able to access the blog. I’ve searched the support entries. Probably doing something wrong. Any help? blog address: http://theliteraryhorse.wordpress.com/

Thank you very much…appreciate your time and fast response! I’m still thinking I must be doing something mind-blowingly stupid, as I’ve discovered many of my issues (except this one) have resolved themselves over the last week with reading the forums and familiarity. Thanks again!

Maybe try deleting all of the problem users and try re-adding them to your blog?

Good thinking! I’ll try that. Thanks.

I may have found part of the problem…when I went to implement your suggestion, the reader who can access was the ONLY reader listed. Yesterday there were five. I’m pretty sure I didn’t delete them. But being new, it’s entirely possible. I was able to add more one email address, but it wouldn’t let me add any more after that. Hopefully support will know! Thanks.

after making changes are you clicking “save” and I do believe in the privacy section as well as save there is “apply”

Yes, but thank you, that had me stumped for awhile on other issues, not clicking save before apply. Still working on it! Am I missing something? Are only people signed up wtih wordpress allowed to read?

I do believe they have to have wp.com account they can sign up for one
& not even bother with getting a blog they just need to check mark
“I just want a user name” option.

Thank you teck07 – that would explain why most of the folks aren’t getting through – I appreciate knowing that, and thanks for taking the time to answer. Now I can tell them how to do it. My one reader got in (must’ve done that) but couldn’t remember what she did.

Odd tho- another friend has an long time account and a blog on WP and he’s not able to get in. Sounds like I have a mix of issues: “Noob didn’t know enough” and a possible site glitch? In any case, you guys have been so great, thanks!

Problem resolved thanks to teck07 and Anthony at user support. It was newbie pilot error. For future reference on blog set to private:
    1. send out your invites telling people they need to register w/username & password, 2. After they register and respond to you, THEN add them to your user list and hit save.
