Blog Address

  • I pointed my domain servers to NS1,2,3.wordpress.com for walnuthillprivatopia.org which I own – I want my blog address to match my domain address – not wordpress.com. I paid $13 to map my domain. Just want to know how to get this all done. I just changed my blog address to walnuthillprivatopia.wordpress.com, but would prefer my own name; i.e., walnuthillprivatopia.org … if you can do that for me behind the scenes I’d greatly appreciate it.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • All wordpress.com blogs are on .wordpress.com subdomains.
WordPress.com does not accept domain transfers but mapping an existing domain is possible.

Domain forwarding is not supported and as wordpress.COM hosted sites do not have permanent IP addresses it will fail.

Domain mapping is not done free of charge. The charge is $13 per year for mapping an existing domain that you already own.

    Important Notes Before Upgrading
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading

If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the WordPress.COM blog URL, and as you own a domain URL already, you can see here for mapping an existing domain. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Domain mapping of an existing domain URL that you already own and purchased elsewhere is not done free of charge. You will have to renew the domain name purchase where you made it, and also renew the domain mapping purchase here, each and every year.

NOTE: Mapping an existing domain costs $13. annually and a domain name purchase and domain mapping are included in the Premium upgrade bundle.

In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com sub-domain blog to map from and it does not matter what that underlying .wordpress.com URL is. It does not have to match the domain URL. If you do not register a .wordpress.com blog URL first then the software supplies the dot whatever URL so you can proceed with your domain mapping purchase.

It can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

  • Thanks for the d-e-t-a-i-l -e-d answer! I’ve paid the mapping charge and pointed my domain server(s) to NS1,2,3.wordpress.com so I guess I’ll just have to wait for the transfer to complete? Cheers!

  • It sounds like you need now is to wait. It can take as long as 72 hours for DNS changes to become widely available and it is not unusual for the last place to flush their DNS caches to be your own ISP. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during this stage is to be patient. If you’re still not seeing your site loading at walnuthillprivatopia.org, please wait a few more hours, clear your browser cache, http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clear-your-cache-and-cookies and try again.

  • P.S. Post again if this does not resolve.

  • Gracias, mas mucho mas!
