[Beginner] Need help for 2 WP projects

Hi,

These days, I’m helping some people with there projects. In fact, I don’t have a job and I’m confined to my home! So I use my time to help people.

There is 2 projects, (one is for my brother and another one is for a friend).

1/ My brother is a developer, he is developping an application. But he need a website so he can present this app and do some SEO, etc. He wants a thing that is very modern but also very simple. He is okay to use WordPress (I know how to handle a WordPress but I never installed one so I don’t really know about FTP or hosting. I hope it’s not too complicated!).
My question is : do you know a WordPress theme, free, modern, stable and durable over time?
I will check by my side for the hosting.

2/ My friend is full of little ideas. She don’t have a lot of money but she is okay to begin with a wordpress domain name (like “something.wordpress.com”). The thing is she will need a system of paiement.
So my question is : by using a domain name in wordpress (to limit costs), will she still be able to use a payment system?

Sorry for my average english level… :/
And thanks a lot for your answers, it would be so cool if you could help me! I am asked a lot of things, it makes me happy so I don’t mind working only as a volunteer, but sometimes it’s complicated to know everything! :D

1. Generally all WordPress themes are stable over a few years, and changing themes is very easy: https://wordpress.com/themes

2. Using a custom domain here does require a paid plan, and the level of your paid plan determines what options you have for accepting payment: https://wordpress.com/support/monetize-your-site/
