Allow embedding Maps Engine maps on WordPress.com
-
Honestly I’m not sure why this is so difficult. Google provides an iframe snippet on mapsengine that would work fine if wordpress didn’t go and mangle the HTML turning it into a [googlemaps ...] tag. In my opinion this isn’t even a feature, it’s a bug.

Please resolve this issue. Google Map embed are tremendously useful, and not being able to utilise them easily is a big handicap for WordPress.com users.

I just created a travel blog but I’m disappointed there are no map plugins or widgets with wordpress.com. I’m not educated enough to create a .org site, but there are tons of map plugins available if I make the switch. The plugin that first caught my eye is http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-visited-countries/. Please add some sort of mapping widget so I can actually make a decent travel blog!!

i agree. this needs to be updated. i have a hiking and travel site like many others have posted. disappointing for sure.

Pathetic. I don’t think you can revertback to the old google maps o use it’s irame code (that still works o one of my older WP.com sites.
It also sucks that I made many maps in Google my maps that must be converted t KLM files to upload into maps engine. Couldn’t google automatically cover them instead of abandoning their old faithful My maps….
Now I can’t ad a grave marker map to my genealogy sit either. This a flaw that needs to be fixed. -
@xdamageincx : You don’t have ton convert your old google maps. You can import them directly into the new maps engine. You just need to click on import > my maps. That’s what I did. The problem is I still can’t embed them in my blog.
-
I just tried that- only a handful of “My Maps” show up on the import list. I did on to see how it worked- it was ok. But can’t import the many others that I have. Sucks that you have to do them one at a time as well.

This would be really useful- have just started a blog about a journey I am doing and being unable to embed my route map is a major drawback in wordpress.

I accidentally deleted all of my detailed Google Maps of London which I had embedded on my blog when I closed my duplicate Google account. I forgot the map was ‘owned’ by that account so had to spend hours upon hours creating a new one using Google’s new Maps Engine. Now after all that, I find out WordPress doesn’t support it. Such a cruel world.
-
Now that really sucks! I thought that there might be a program hat takes the google cod and makes i usable in wordpress.com but I can’t remember what it was.
-
Seriously? Nothing yet WordPress? Come on. This seems like an easy fix that is now dragging on for four months.

I am new to WordPress. Have just spent a while trying to work out why my Map Engine map wouldn’t display – very disappointed to find it is not up to date on this! Please add this feature.
-
We’re still waiting, wordpress! Please fix it so that the new google maps work, thankyou.
