Add a sidebar where my categories can show up?

How can I have my categories show up on a sidebar? I added the names of my categories as pages, but if I could get a sidebar to appear listing each category I would prefer that. Please let me know. Thanks!

The first thing you need to do is to familiarize yourself with the differences between pages and posts. The pages you created are not categories and you cannot assign posts to them.
You need to create your categories at posts > post categories (or on the fly when you create posts) and then when you create posts, you assign the appropriate categories to that post.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/category-management/To get the categories to show up in the sidebar you have to add the categories widget to the sidebar (appearance > widgets). Do not that categories will not show up in the categories widget until that category has been assigned to at least one published post.

“You cannot assign posts to them” but you can turn the tabs into links to categories, as I already said here:
