Who are these people?
For some of us, blogging is personal. Others are trying to educate or entertain; many more are hybrids. Yet we’re all storytellers. Creative Writing Challenges help you to push your writing boundaries, show off your blogging chops, and, hopefully, spark more post ideas.
To participate, tag your post with DPchallenge or leave a link to it in the comments. (It would also be great if you could link to this post to encourage people to take part – the more the merrier!) Your post should be specifically written in response to this challenge. We’ll keep an eye on the tag and highlight some of our favorite posts on Freshly Pressed on Friday.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, right? Prove it!
This week’s challenge couldn’t be simpler: tell a story based on this picture.
You can take this in whatever direction you’d like.
- Write some fiction. Who are these people? What’s their backstory? What’s going on in this picture? What happens next? Construct a history for us.
- Write from your own experience. Do one of these people remind you of someone you know, or of something that’s happened to you? Connect the dots for us.
- Go on a flight of fancy. Who knows what pops into your head when you take a look? Grab the first thing and go with it!
We’ll tell you the truth behind the photo in next week’s challenge post, but we’re sure it won’t be nearly as interesting as what you come up with!
Interesting!

Watkr, people usually leave links to their posts in the comments here. You can also take a look at the list of pingbacks (at the bottom of the comment section), or browse the “DPchallenge” topic in the Reader.

Well, I just did a little comedy sort of dialogue. between the people in the picture and the person taking the picture. 🙂 http://mysanctuaryjournal.wordpress.com/2012/11/05/weekly-writing-challenge-a-picture-is-worth-1000-words/

Voilà, here’s my story to the picture. It’s a little bit longer than a thousand words although I originally wanted to reach exactly a thousand words, but a story is finished when all of it is told and if it requires more than a thousand words, so be it. I really hope you like it 🙂
