Forget the sad times. This week, it’s all about revelling in a win.
Editor’s note: this photo challenge theme and post were planned and published before the events that unfolded on Friday November 13th in Paris, France. Our hearts and thoughts are with the families of those lost. We understand if you feel like you might want to sit this one out.
I recently had a rematch with a foe who, one year ago, put my lack of physical conditioning in stark relief.
Last September, I attempted a three-mile run on the trails of Peak Ninety-Nine 90 in Park City, Utah. I barely made it up and down; I stopped several times to catch my breath. I was winded and defeated. My opponent underlined my flatlander status, my advancing age, and my mortality.
That week, I got some great running advice from a colleague. I put that advice into practice for over a year, five times a week. I ran miles through the park, the forest, and on hot, dusty gravel roads, thrashing at black flies.
Over a thousand miles later, I got the chance to test myself, and this time, I won. I ran four joyful miles on that glorious victory day, Ninety-Nine 90 in full fall color, the gorgeous views their own reward.

In your photo this week, focus on the win, the victory — that moment of glory and pride you’ll remember forever. I can’t wait to cheer for you.
Congratulations! That’s quite an accomplishment and a glorious photo to celebrate it.
