For this week’s challenge, share a photo which describes what spring means to you. It can be a flower in bloom (or a field of them!), a May Day celebration, or even some kids enjoying the sun after a long winter indoors.

Dadda! Wagon go faster! Keep going faster. Dadda WHEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

It may have passed you by, but yesterday was May Day. It’s a holiday that’s been celebrated for millennia in a multitude of forms by a variety of cultures all over the Western hemisphere as the first day of spring; when winter has finally loosened its clutches on the world (well, the northern part of it at least!) and the landscape begins to come alive again with green, growing things. No matter where you are in the world, it’s a time of change.

It also seems to signal the exact moment when little boys and girls absolutely must be outside from dawn to dusk (and beyond, if they’re allowed!). To me, “spring” means little kids being pulled in endless circles while they giggle and shout and beg for longer and faster rides in their shiny Radio Flyer wagon:

For this week’s challenge, share a photo that shows what spring means to you. It can be a flower in bloom (or a field of them!), a May Day celebration, or your dog luxuriating in the grass after a long winter indoors. Maybe it’s a shot you took on a spring break trip, or your family wearing Easter finery.

No matter which hemisphere you’re in, think about how the season’s change will expand your own chance to play outside, taking pictures as you go!

      1. Wow—i visited your site, and the photo you featured is glorious: it’s not easy to capture a bird soaring… towards the sun! (As you can see, WordPress featured your post “Hope from Above” in this week’s page) (see featured posts section).
I was inspired by that photo… Here it is: because humans don’t fly, I used some special effects to make my sister soar to the clouds! Hope people like this experiment, on a spring day, my post for the Weekly Photo Challenge: Spring, photo by J, age: 9; spring jump-for-joy- earth-is-aglow modeled by Myra Lambino, at:

  1. I’ll have to come back and post some pictures when I get home of my daughter. I got some great shots the one or two days it was actually nice out here. This whole week has been nothing bu rain and sadness so we haven’t gotten outside. Definitely tying in with “April Showers Bring More Flowers” since I can see the blossoms popping up on everything now! Thank goodness.

  2. This is a great way to share what spring means to you this year! I think I may have to join your challenge. I love the Earth, It almost hurt me to see how long it took for the cherry blossoms to blossom this year because of mean ol’ man winter. So I shall post one today! Thanks for the inspiration.
