This week, share a picture that takes us on a journey into the unknown.
Taking a photo is an invitation to explore the world around us as if it were new and mysterious. My favorite shots are always the ones that reveal something — a detail, an angle — I’d previously overlooked. They’re the ones that turn the familiar slightly (or very) alien.
On a recent cold, bright morning, I went strolling on the beach with my kids. Shells, seagulls, dogs running around — everything seemed like it always does. And then I looked down.
At low tide, this stretch of beach on British Columbia’s Strait of Georgia looked like it could easily be mistaken for a place in a galaxy far, far away. The undulating ridges of wet sand stretched far and wide, with the light casting dramatic shadows despite these lines being barely a couple of centimeters tall. For a brief moment, we were explorers on an uncharted planet (or perhaps we were the aliens?).
This week, share a photo that takes a familiar scene — a place you frequent, a face you know well, an activity you engage in regularly — and makes it look and feel like something out of this world. Feel free to interpret the theme as loosely as you see fit. I look forward to seeing your photos!

I always see something in texture and colors of nature. Love this one and before I opened it and saw what it really was, I thought you were into zebra prints 😉

Beautiful B&W picture, Ben. The zigzagging lines seem to extend forever!
I love taking picture of the sky; it is so common yet its depth holds a deep mystery that can be seen in the bliss of a gliding eagle high high above…

Yet another tough challenge. The architecture gives me a sci-fi feeling and sci-fi is a little out of this world, right?

I must admit a low-tide planet is one of my favorite places to be. I think I will find something from those visits for this weeks challenge. As a dialogue with your beautiful photo.

Ben, I always love your posts. And this time, you gave me a hook for a post that I wanted to publish. With no apologies for twisting the brief.

Oo, those ridges look just like my snowy-mountainside! You think you’ve seen it all with snow and mountains (my mild obsession), and then bam, one left turn and you’ve walked (or skied) into an oil painting.

Ben’s example is definitely another planet’s surface. My subject could walk in it in his astronaut suit. http://rutheh.com/2018/02/28/ready-for-lift-off-to-the-moon/
