For this week’s photo challenge, share a picture that symbolizes transitions, change, and the passing of time.
Earlier this year, I visited a beach called Dunas de Marapé in the Northeast of Brazil. At first glance, it looked like a calm, moderately sized river with large sand dunes on both sides. As I got closer, I realized I was actually at the mouth of the river delta, the current growing louder and faster before it spilled into the sea.
On both sides of this river, there were children playing and people wading into the water. At its mouth, teenagers laughed as they tried to cross the seemingly shallow body of water, only to find themselves tumbling over as the tide rushed past their feet, causing them to slip and fall. All of this power just because the water was changing from one state (a river) into something else (the ocean).

Photography captures a moment in time; it captures a sliver of any given movement, not the entire motion itself. Only the photographer can see the whole picture, like the one above for me. At first glance, it looks just like a calm body of water, but, in fact, it’s a small portion of this special place that reminded me of change and the ways in which we respond to it.
This week, share a photograph that signifies transitions and change to you. It can be the very beginning of a phase, or the very end. As you pick up your lens, explore the ways in which a single photograph can express time, while only showing us a small portion of any given moment.
Yes you have covered it very well in words and a picture

I think there is a mistake in the pingback code. Or maybe it is just not working for me 🙂

The transition from day to night is often dramatic, Erica, like this sunset we experienced in Port Royal, Jamaica. http://bit.ly/JamSunset

Have never heard the term Delta used in this manner. Not seeing it as a word to be used for the meaning you are suggesting so I’ll just wing it.

“the current growing louder and faster before it spilled into the sea” is exactly the opposite of what happens in this river delta – and almost certainly every other!

This is an interesting one Erica! That ‘slice of the pie’ capturing a fraction of time and conveying passing time and here we are in the middle of Climate Change! http://wp.me/s1wyZM-delta

Love how you talk about photos only showing a small portion of the BIGGER moment. So many times do I go to take a picture and stop because it just hasn’t given it justice. I just sit back and take in the entire moment. Obviously I still snap those pictures, but it is so amazing got be there experiencing it! The memories do take you back to that feeling you got while you were there!

I agree, I think it’s so important to take those pictures, but also remember to enjoy the whole moment since it will never happen again 😀
