What are you waiting for?

Penang, Malaysia, is a great destination for my two very favorite street-based pastimes: food and art. Between gorging on chicken satay and Assam Laksa (and occasionally ducking into shops for an air-conditioned respite from the tropical heat), I strolled the streets, finding a new masterpiece on the side of every building.

On one street, all the art had a theme: cats. My favorite was this gray and white specimen, frozen in eternal anticipation of his (or her) mousy treat:

This week, share a photo that says anticipationA candid shot of your niece, eager to blow out the candles on her birthday cake. A photo from the trip you’d long dreamed of. An image of something you hope to have one day, or something that was worth the wait. For those who celebrate Christmas, how about a photo of the stockings hung by the chimney with care?

My anticipation for your photos is building! (See what I did there?)

  1. I grew up in Malaysia, Penang – as a child. I remember in the 1960’s locals had not seen white kids with blue eyes and white blonde hair. They used to come up to me in the street and stroke my hair and say “coapa” to me and give me mangos as a gift. Imagine my surprise when I went back to England at 7 years old and walked down the street and no one noticed me? I remember that shock as a child. Thanks for reminding me of my experience and the amazing food there.
