Comment Guidelines for The Daily Post

At The Daily Post, we follow the same comment guidelines as those on The WordPress.com Blog, the official blog of WordPress.com.

The Daily Post isn’t just a space for blogging tips and resources, but for conversations. We love to receive your comments, hear your ideas, and see you engage with one another. It’s this interaction that makes blogging so awesome.

To increase meaningful conversation, sometimes it’s necessary to reduce the not-so-meaningful chatter. Here are the kinds of things we delete in our comment threads:

  • One-word comments like “Cool!” or “Thanks!” While we appreciate the congrats, we’d love to hear more about what exactly you love, and (even more importantly) why.
  • Shameless self-promotion. Comments that simply contain links to your site and are unrelated to the post are a no-no. If you’d like to increase traffic to your blog, check out our ebook on growing traffic and building your blog or browse our traffic and growth category. (Note: our Weekly Photo and Discover Challenges work differently — you’re welcome to simply share links to your posts in the comments, provided they respond to that challenge!)
  • Support questions. For the speediest service, please read the Support docs and contact Support if you can’t find the answer there. We may trim lengthy, off-topic support questions to minimize the disruption to the flow of comments.
  • An excessive number of comments by one author. We’re glad you want to engage, but please give others a chance to speak, too.
  • Really long comments. Keep comments focused and succinct. If you have more to say, why not blog about it on your own site?
  • Digressions. We love that you’re a chatty bunch! But please keep your comments on topic.
  • Personal comments about staff members. OK, perhaps they might make us blush. Still, they’re not appropriate for the blog.
  • Inflammatory or offensive comments. Please respect other commenters and staff members in your comments and avoid profanity and unnecessary language.

We also delete comments that are written entirely in a language other than English, as well as those that are difficult to understand due to grammatical and spelling errors.

We hope you’ll appreciate and stand by these guidelines. Our goal is to make The Daily Post a place for both information and feedback. What you say matters. :)

Comments

  1. some of these guidelines are way over the top…what if the person is linking to their own post which is related to the topic at hand. What’s wrong with that? you guys get to advertise 19 out of hundreds of thousands of blogs on freshly pressed but we can’t link to our own in a comment?
