Event Type: Photography

Start Date: Sunday, recurring weekly

Description: Every Sunday I run a photo post called “My Home Town” which features a picture from…you guessed it…my home town. I encourage you to do the same, and share a link with us!

The blogging community is filled with people from all over the world. One of my joys is to browse through other blogs that show unique photos of where they live. What better way to learn about the world than through these blogs and what better way to learn about the flavor of each place than by someone who lives there and knows it?

Sketching Fire Sketchbook Challenge

Event Type: Visual Arts

Start Date: Friday, recurring weekly

Description: Once a week on Friday the title of my post will be the “theme” for the week of creativity.

Take your time to determine the direction, interpretation and the many nuances of the word of the theme word. It is all relative to the individual…take it where you want it to go, let it breathe and grow…let it burst into flame. Begin to develop your sketchbook for the challenge whenever you are ready. There is no limit to the number of sketchbook pages devoted to the theme of the week…create as many or as few as you wish. Post your themed sketchbook entry on your blog either as you go so we can follow the process or in one marvelous giant sweeping post at the end of the week….always be sure to drop in here to post a link to your sketchbook entry in the comments of the week’s theme. Share your ideas, your progress and your thoughts on each theme. That way we can all find you and celebrate your creative fire.

My own sketchbook will be digital using a Cintiq tablet and Photoshop. BUT: Please do not feel limited to the digital medium. Traditional sketchbooks in their many, many facets are just fine and fantastic in fact.

The Goal of this challenge is to develop each our own sketchbook journal filled with brilliant glowing creativity….a stepping stone to future creative projects even. It is an opportunity to light up the blank pages with creative fire, to inspire and motivate each other and celebrate each other’s baby steps that will grow into vast sweeping strides into Sketching Fire.

It sounds a bit grandiose but grandiose is indeed what happens when one allows one’s creativity to flow unbridled.

Culture Weekly Capture

Mayan TextileEvent Type: Photography & Visual Arts

Start Date: Saturday, recurring weekly

Description: Hello, Bonjour, Hola, Mabuhay!

Here in The Mixed Culture our mission is to share interesting things about different cultures, inspire others to see, experience & appreciate the uniqueness of other cultures…to go beyond culture. We are inviting you to join us by sharing us your thoughts through photography that depict culture. It can be about your own culture, from the country you’re currently living in, the “pop culture” or your own interpretation of culture. Show us things that you think will help us to understand a culture different from our own. Or, guide us through your photos to some of the amazing places that only locals know about, food worth trying when someone is visiting a new place, traditions to know about in a country….anything you would like us to know about your culture.

So, here’s how we roll:

1. Every Saturday we’ll give a theme for the week. You take photographs according to your interpretation of the theme of the week to showcase your (a) culture. Then, make a new post anytime during the week before the following Saturday.

2. Name your post “Culture Weekly Capture: (theme of the week)” so we can check-out your photos. Write something about the photo (to understand how is it related to your culture) and use the tag “culture weekly capture”. You can also link, Trackback or pingback us so we can hop in to your post.

3. Finally, don’t forget to follow us The Mixed Culture to get the latest weekly theme, and subscribe to our posts via e-mail.

We hope to see your culture through your photographs…Go and Happy Culture Capturing. 🙂

RonovanWrites Weekly Haiku Challenge

rw-weekly-haiku-challenge

Event Type: Poetry

Start Date: Monday, recurring weekly

Description: RonovanWrites Weekly Haiku Challenge is a weekly prompt for Haiku in English form. Each Monday two new words are given at 9:00 AM EST or New York time for those who are like me and have no clue what all the letters mean.

The rules are simple.

1.    Take the two words and write a Haiku. I use Haiku in English as my style, but you can use what you like.

2.    The two words can be used as you like. Words have different definitions and you can use the definitions you like. You can even use a synonym word as long as it does not change the meaning.

3.    Copy a link to your finished haiku  in a comment so we can all go and visit your site to see what you have done. I will comment on your site. You can do a ping back, put a link back to the prompt page, if you like within your post, as long as it does not take away from your haiku. I would do it at the very bottom near where one normally puts the copyright. But I am not encouraging anyone to do that. This is just permission to do so. This is simply a prompt and challenge to encourage people to try Haiku and give some a prompt and a place to share in comments so we can find each other.

4.    You may copy the badge appearing in this post and place it on your site if you wish. I am not saying you need to, but if you would like to do so then go ahead. It is simply my way of saying thank you for participating.

5.    At the end of the week I will post a list of my favorites with links to their Haiku. There may be categories coming to make it clearer for you and me as to how this works.

Start Date: Ongoing

Description: Every week We Drink Because We’re Post hosts a poetry prompt (Mondays), Photography/Poetry Prompt (Tuesdays), short story prompt (Wednesdays) as well as hosting a once monthly seven day story challenge. There are no real rules beyond being respectful when critiquing and avoiding trolling at all times. Our expectation: to be able to find your post so we can include you in the results posts each week, whether you pingback to our prompt posts, answer the prompt in the comments section, or use one of our tags (which will be included in the prompt).

Our motivation is simple: we thrive on sharing and casting the spotlight on artists. Why? Because we’re artists, too, and each of us has a healthy respect for how challenging it is to develop one’s skills as an artist as well as make a name for one’s self.

Basically, we’ve been there or we are there, and it never hurts to share and promote artists besides ourselves.

When working on change, we tend to believe that we are alone. You aren’t alone and a lot of us would like to be a better version of ourselves.

Each month, there will be a total of 6 posts initiated. For example:

First month asks the questions:

1.What are your fitness/health/weightloss goals?

2.Why would you like to achieve these goals?

3.Describe your level of fitness activity

4.Describe what types of food you like

5.Write a post about your current stats

6.Why is fitness/health/weightloss important to you?

Each question should be a separate post (I don’t want to see one post with everything thrown in there because I want people to take some actual thought in their answers. Plus it will make the readers keep up and not have too much thrown at us!).

Each Post should have a link (or use the widget) that links to the My Weigh To Lose Challenge page.

Prizes may be handed out once in a while to a few dedicated bloggers (prizes will be raffled based on who posted each month). So make sure to post for each question and link to the page or you wont be placed in the raffle!

All posts should be written within 4 weeks of each other if it’s a monthly challenge. You should not do 2 months of Challenges in 1 month. The challenge is designed to create life style change based on your goals, so don’t rush it all at once!

Twisted Mix Tape Tuesday

mixtape jenkehlTopic: Music

Start Date: Monday, recurring weekly

Description:  This is a music link-up that goes live on Monday nights at 9pm EST. The rules of Twisted MixTape are as such: Try and create a 5 song mix based on this week’s theme. The theme changes weekly, so check the last post for the list.

Take it easy, make it flow, remember in your mind you are creating your mixtape for a friend, what would he want to hear?

Create your own post and link it up, or put your mix in the comments. If you are going to link-up there must be a song – relating to the theme – in your post. And really, if you’re not ready to link up with us, no worries! We love songs in the comments! So bring it!

Please visit your fellow mix-makers, and if you can, comeback every so often to see if anyone new has arrived. Share this all over the place, the more the merrier!

Comments

    1. I have just published the same content in a post, and the Trackbacks & Pingbacks work perfectly. It does seems that Trackbacks & Pingbacks work with posts only and not pages.

    1. Also, this list is for actual planned events — regular posts that ask for feedback don’t really qualify; that’s what every post is, essentially. If you plan an event in the future, be sure to submit it!

  1. Thanks for mentioning my challenge! It would be great to have a direct link to this page in a prominent place (like under the “community” heading or beside/under “Freshly Pressed” in the reader top bar/side window) so all WPers can get here easily!

  2. Thanks for this list and including my What if challenge. It has received a lot of response and we’ve had a lot of fun with it. It is great to see all these inspiring writing events listed in one place.

      1. Thank you for listing my event, and for this whole idea! I have begun to participate in other events from your list, I especially liked the suicide prevention event, reasons2live, this could truly make a difference in someone’s life! Even save lives. Just wondering, will these Blog Events be highlighted on WordPress main or reader pages at some point? How will most people know they are here?

  5. Can I please have my event removed? I am no longer doing the event and I know I asked before to have it removed and it still hasn’t not happened. I have gotten people coming to my blog looking for the prompt only to find it not there. I don’t plan on bringing it back. Please remove the event.

    1. This is why I have called to be able to have control of our posts, I would suspect that not being able to remove your own posts could breach the copyright law, as the post you make is copyright to yourself so not having control breachs your right. What do you say, would you like control of posts made outside your blig?

    2. I asked to have my event removed almost a month ago. Can somebody remove it? Or direct to a place where I can request that the event be removed.

  6. Hi there, I would like to get my event removed from the list above, I have posted on at least one other forums but have not got a response, who do I need to contact in order to get an event removed?
