Time to expand your social circle: pick a blogging event from the Community Event Listings to try.
It’s time to leave the confines of Blogging 101 to seek other opportunities (blopportunities?). From weekly iPhoneography challenges to monthly flash-fiction events, blogger-hosted events are fun, free, spirited ways to get even more feedback on your work, build your audience, and make friends.
Today’s challenge: pick a blogging event from the Community Event Listings to try for some instant community.
Why do this?
- Events introduce you to a ready-made community, where it’s easier to find new fans and new favorite reads.
- Events and challenges are a great way to get inspired and motivated — others establish and host the event, so all you have to do is participate! No heavy lifting required.
Take a look through the event listings: you’ll find photography and visual art events, writing events, niche events (such as travel and food events), and one-time challenges. Use the drop-down menus to sort by type of event or topic. Find one that’s a perfect fit, or use this as an opportunity to try something new. The listings are continually updated with new events.
You can also use the Reader to search — try “events” or “challenges,” or get more specific. Look for photo challenges, poetry events, recipe challenges — whatever your blogging angle is, someone’s running an event. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by options, try our weekly photo challenge.
If you find an event you think’d be great for other 101 bloggers, let us know in The Commons.
Happy blogging!
I have a question which might not be relevant here. I am trying to post a link from one of my older posts on to a post I am currently writing, how do I do that ?

1. Go into the post that you want to link to. The actual post, not the editing version.
2. Copy the link at the top.
3. Go into the post you are creating.
4. Now, type words you want clicked – such as “Check out this post I created last week”
5, highlight these words (do not copy – highlight only).
6. Click the link icon at the top of the post
7. paste the link you copied in #2 above
This creates a link with the link to the old post imbedded.
8. You could also simply paste the link from #2 into your post.
You will need to look at the preview or actually post this to see the link. To prove it to yourself (I always have to do this, skeptic that I am, click on the link.
Good luck

Hi guys 🙂 this whole blogging thing is just awesome… I discovered today an option of publishing the posts with the use of scheduling, all I needed to do was to pick the date and time and press ‘publish’ button…
It’s 1:45 AM on our side of the globe and 8th of October, while on your side might be still 7th of October… I feel like talking or writing to the youngest brother… WOW… I’m writing because I have to share something with you…
I experienced today the first snow with a little bit of rain 🙂 It’s cold in here, about 3 to 5 degrees celsius…
If the scheduling works, this blog post will be online at 1:13 PM over here, Let me know if works 🙂 Cheers from Ireland

Yes, this is a great option. It is especially useful for people procrastinating at work: you write your post while working and schedule it to publish after working hours, so no one suspects you’ve been doing it while at work. 😉

Wonderful idea and tip. I’ve always checked on some and found some great blogs through the events / challenges. Maybe I’ll dip my toes in to see what it’s all about and experience it from a participators view instead of a visitor or watcher.

Thank you for this tip. My blog is focused on a specifc topic of Cyber Security, and I have not yet found a suitable contest.
Being an entrepreneurial type, I’ve taken a alternative approach, and asked my Marketing Department to set one up! Watch this space – you might want to enter.

Thanks! I was just getting ready to post that I found the link. A photo challenge I run was once listed here (I think), but don’t see it now or with a search, so I’ll submit again. 🙂

Hi there would you mind letting me know which hosting company you’re using?
I’ve loaded your blog in 3 completely different browsers and I must say this
blog loads a lot faster then most. Can you recommend a good web
hosting provider at a honest price? Thanks a lot, I
appreciate it!
