Today’s assignment: write the post that was on your mind when you decided to start a blog.
When you first thought about blogging, you had a post idea; something you wanted to say, a photo to share, a story on the tip of your brain. Maybe you just wanted to cultivate a writing habit — but you probably had an idea for a post, no matter how nascent. Today, you’ll write it.
Today’s assignment: write the post that was on your mind when you decided to start a blog.
Why?
- Because it’s an idea you were passionate enough about that it motivated you to become a blogger — there’s something to that.
- Because you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment and ownership for following through on the idea, the blog, and the post — and that will make you a more confident blogger.
Open a new post, and let the ideas flow from brain to fingers to keyboard to screen. Spew it out without worrying how it sounds, then review your ideas and give them more shape.
You don’t have to publish this post if you don’t want to. Maybe your ideas about blogging have already changed and you plan to focus your posts elsewhere, or maybe you’re not quite ready to share Your Big Idea with the world just yet. That’s okay — save the post as a draft, and hang on to it. Revisit it at the end of the month, and see how it feels then.
Don’t have an idea, or you began blogging simply to have a place to practice writing? Great, do that: publish a post that responds to today’s writing prompt. Feeling less-than-confident about your idea? Take a look at our post on breaking down your internal critic.
Have more to say? Head to The Commons.

Day Three done, finally. I didn’t exactly follow the challenge, since I wrote my first post over two years ago. I just wrote what my musey told me to write, and he/she/it is never wrong. Enjoy, or don’t…whatever trips your trigger.

I’m a day late and a dollar or so short (I’m Canadian… the exchange rate isn’t so good), but here’s a few words on what was (wasn’t) in my mind when I wrote my first post. Be gentle. I’m a sensitive guy. http://www.leftcoastbydesign.ca/2014/04/zero-to-hero-where-it-began/

Hi everyone!
As a student- juggling classes, lab, clinic and other aspects have life had made me run fast-paced, which made me overlook the present and constantly seek the future. After a epiphany kind of moment, inspired by the sea, I began to slow down and truly take in each moment and savor it.
I have described that moment in this poem:

This is the precise moment which made me want to cultivate my hobbies and nurture my creativity. I felt this would be apt for assignment #3.
Sorry for the delayed post.
Thanks for reading, and I welcome any feedback.
Have a great day!

Hi everyone, I had posted with the link to my assignment #3, but I was not able to find it under these comments.
Here it is: http://surelysherley.wordpress.com
It’s a poem I wrote about the precise moment that inspired me to once again cultivate my hobbies and creativity. It was a moment that taught me not to be caught up in the rat race always and to just stand back once in a while and truly take in the beauty of the moment, with the abundance of Earth’s beauty before us.
Thank you for your read, and I welcome any feedback.
Have a great day!

I just made the change to WordPress, so while I know the assignment isn’t about formatting or blog design I’ll take any tips or advice you may have. I’m still trying to get the hang of WordPress. Thanks!

Some great tips here. I’m reading a book on why writers write and they mention very similar tough times and ways of beating the ‘block’! I nearly didn’t write my 3rd blog last month and then wrote about that experience, plus a little something else.

The book by the way is ‘Why we write’ edited by Meredith Moran.

I also have a small technical question. I used to be able to put a border around a photo once it was imported into the Dashboard, but don’t seem to be able to do this anymore. Can anyone help? Thanks.

It’s been a while, but the memory remains fresh. Unlike most people, it wasn’t about a particular idea or genre for me.
I needed a place to air my opinions on different issues – and get feedback. No surprise I’ve still not been able to pin myself to a particular theme or genre. The fundamental denominator is to give it all a personal touch.
Two big worries I had before going live was what name to call the blog, and whether people would even be interested. A friend had said it was a lousy idea – and no one would read. That was good motivation.
Of course, when photography offered a supporting outlet, I quickly found space on the blog for that too. 😀
