First Friday

Brand new blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.
  • When commenting, avoid copying and pasting the same response repeatedly. It makes it look like you’re not really paying attention. Not to mention, it’s spammy.

    1. I found one of your statements interesting…you talk about how you have lost your ability to communicate due to depression ..this has to be scary and overwhelmingly…I once heard that you have never fully experience something until you share it..wish you the best..

    1. Hi. Good job. I didn’t find the like button.
At the top of the blog, your headline is very hard to see because of the color and busy-ness of the image. Maybe if you changed the font color.

    1. I think your theme is perfect for your site. I just viewed it on my phone. The theme feels like you’re seeing the images through an aquarium tank which is so cool! I checked out the glossary. This is also an awesome idea. I would consider changing the color of the title of your site on the top banner. It kind of blends in with the background image. Keep up the good work!

      2. I think every theme is slightly different in the customizer, but for my theme I can change the header color through the customized. There is a section titled “color” and one of the options is for the header. I’m also new at this so I’m not sure how helpful that is.

    1. I like your blog 👍🏻 I’d consider an about page so your readers can learn more about you.

  1. My blog is mainly a DIY blog with some parenting/ lifestyle/ wedding advice mixed in. I love DIY projects and it seems like I always have at least a few projects going at any given time. After a few friends repeatedly suggested me opening an Etsy page I decided I would rather share how-to posts on how I make them instead!

I bought my domain name almost 3 weeks ago but this is my first time exploring WordPress reader (there is SO much to learn when it comes to blogging), so I thought I would share my own first post even if it is just my “about.”

    1. I loved your pinwheel post. I didn’t see the like button until after I commented, I’m not sure if I missed it or if it isn’t there. I also couldn’t find a follow button. Also new to this so I may have missed it. I really like your site 🙂

      1. I actually probably added the like button as you were reading it 😂. I’ll be figuring out how to add a follow button ASAP and will let you know when I do.

Reading through the comments on this thread has already shown me so many things I can do to improve ( you know little things like adding a like and follow button or changing my gravatar picture). I really appreciate your feedback and let me know if you do try the pinwheel backdrop at Christmas!

      2. A few minor crises later I’ve added a follow button. For some reason jet pack wasn’t linking correctly to WordPress so I had to disconnect and reconnect ( and lost all my stats in the process 😞)

Oh well at least it’s functional now!

      1. Ok apparently jet pack And WordPress.com weren’t liking each other. A re-install and a few choice words later it’s reconnected and hopefully it now works ? Let me know if it does please and thank you!

Also btw for some reason your gravatar reminds me of Regina Spektor 😍

I love your DIYs I have a few posts coming up about my son’s Star Wars nursery DIYs but it was a close call between that and Harry Potter for his nursery theme

      1. Thank you! My husband said that it definitely captures my personality in real life and it makes blogging oh so much easier to just be me 🙃

I read your what you learned in your first month of blogging post and can definitely relate although I haven’t dabbled in SEO yet I will have to read it further in depth when I choose to develop that aspect! I’m actually planning on posting an article about copyright laws and crafting later today in association with one of my DIY posts so that part struck a chord with me!

Also stop over analyzing you are doing great 👍

  2. Happy Friday everyone 😃 I started How To Be A Dink this April as an outlet and to learn a new skill. I write about what I know/like so mainly what I do in my kitchen. I hope to connect with people through this blog. Please check it out! I’d love feedback, and I’d like to check out some new blogs.
