First Friday

Brand new blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.
  • When commenting, avoid copying and pasting the same response repeatedly. It makes it look like you’re not really paying attention. Not to mention, it’s spammy.

      1. Keep writing. Post when a daily prompt moves you, go to the Community Pool. Tell your friends about it.

I only have 42 followers, so I’m NOT the best source of info on this, but there you have it!

  1. Hello fellow bloggers and aspirant writers,

I have been writing my little butt off (well, as much as I can), and have gotten positive feedback from all of my friends and family, however I have exhausted my resources with them. With First Friday, I hope I can get few more fans or just positive comments from different viewers. Please feel free to leave positive, or negative feedback.

    Thank you all!

    Much luck!

    1. Wow. This is a tough place to stand. It takes courage to share your pain with others and it will, hopefully, help you find your way through. My thoughts are with you as you as you explore this new stage of life. Keep your strength; it’s there.

    1. Hello Vernea! Just checked out your blog. I LOVE the word play and it looks like a fun blog as you learn Greek. Wanted to point out that the Meat and Greek tab wasn’t working. Welcome to the world of blogging!:)

  2. Hiiiii!!! 🙂 I’m currently a high school senior and I am in the process of learning how to manage my anxiety. This blog will be like an online journal where I can freely express myself with a focus on mental health and well-being. I’m super duper excited; check out my blog and let me know what you think! Also, I would love blog recommendations if anyone has any. I am so happy to be part of this community! 🙂

    1. Hi and welcome to WordPress. I agree with the advice you’ve been given so far. While you have valuable information to share about photography tips. . think how much more powerful and helpful your information or advice will be if people can see where you started and how applying the tips that you suggest can improve the results. I’m interested in photography. I’d definitely follow someone willing to share their failures as well as their progress and learn with them. Good luck, I hope you consider the suggestion. It was great advice.

      1. I’ve only just started so I don’t have any failures or accomplishments yet, and the tips I’ve been posting are re-blogged from a site that has lots to offer and the articles really help me. But thank you for the advice!

    1. Hi Hope and Welcome to WordPress. You have typed some very wise words so far. I hope my 8th grader is as wise as you when he gets to grade 10. The words that wowed me were “but your confidence and self-worth should be determined by you and you only.” It usually takes so many people sooo long to figure this out and you already know it! good for you! I love your first posts. Consider adding an about page so people know what to expect from your page, as well as a menu so that people can read more of your work instead of just the most recent or scrolling a lot to get to past posts. I think you’ll help more people than you know, especially as you seem wise beyond your years. Good luck.

      1. Dear Sylvia, thank you so much for your kind words, it really means a lot to me. I’m glad you have taken the time to read and comment about my blog and that you liked my words. I also wish your son well for his next years. I will definitely take your advice regarding the menu and a proper introduction page. Again, I was so happy to read your comment, you’ve given me motivation to keep writing! Thank you so much 😊

    1. Hi Fritzie, Welcome to WordPress. Wow, you are off to a great start with your blog! Are you sure you haven’t done this before? I don’t have any suggestions for improvement. . . Your page is very well laid out. I love the personality in your about photo, the one with you catching snowflakes. All the pictures are breathtaking. I especially love your post about lessons for an unforgettable wedding. So many people let the planning of that day ruin the experience, its so important to just let loose and enjoy, savor the day. Can’t wait to see future posts from you!

      1. Hi Sylvia, thanks so much for your feedback. I’m a newbie — still learning my way around blogging. It takes me forever to write, edit, and publish. Anyway, your page is very well laid out too. It’s easy to navigate and find your story under Living – Laughing – Learning. Looking forward to your next post:)

    1. Hi Dee. Great blog start up. Its very easy to see what the blog is about, it has a great layout with bright and colorful pictures. I really like your link to your other blog about wining. I’ve been working on a second blog and wondering if i should connect them some how and I like how you did yours.

One of the best things I see is the schedule and countdown for upcoming races. Gives your followers something to look forward to.

Pretty impressive. I took some notes to learn from you
