First Friday

Brand new blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.
  • When commenting, avoid copying and pasting the same response repeatedly. It makes it look like you’re not really paying attention. Not to mention, it’s spammy.

  1. Finally Friday!
Post your link and I will check it out and provide some feedback. I usually like to read about science, personal journeys (?) and stories.
Can’t wait to know new people!

  2. Hi everyone. I’m new on WordPress. I’m blogging about a curriculum I authored called The Emotional Advantage-An emotional regulation/intelligence complete nine month long curriculum. A guide to developing abstract thinking and objectivity. It will be available to the public in June. Please feel free to look around, share, or comment. Appreciate your time. Thanks!

    1. Hi! I really love your subject matter and congratulate you on authoring a curriculum! That’s a big achievement.

I checked out a few of your posts but the text on the images was quite small and hard to read on some. Particularly on styles of learning with the guitar image. It sounds like you have a really strong understand of the subject from what I could read though and would love to read more in the future! Thanks for sharing your information with the world!

      1. Thanks for the feedback! I had no idea I had it set up like that! I will figure out how to make them show on the home page as well. 🙂 Really appreciate you pointing that out!

      2. I think I fixed it! I have it set up to show my most recent posts on my homepage so hopefully that works now! 🙂 If not I’ll have to fiddle with it more later.

  3. Hi all!! I just started blogging for the first time within the last month and so far am loving it! Today actually marks my one month so I got in just in time for my last First Friday posting opportunity! I would love to get some feedback on my writing, format, or blog in general as I’m always looking to improve.

I write about a plethora of things but mostly positivity, life events, and self-improvement focused on outlook and optimism. Let me know what you think!!

I’d also love to read other blogs so leave your link so I can check it out! You can never have too many blogs to read!! 🙂 Happy Friday the 13th!!

      1. Thank you for the kind words! I won’t lie, sometimes it feels forced on bad days but blogging seems to have opened up a veritable stream of energy I didn’t know I had! Can’t wait to keep blogging and hopefully hear your thoughts!

  4. Hi everyone, I started my blog right after Easter but have missed these First Friday blogs so far. My real first post was basically just saying welcome and I am getting started now so I include my first “real” post. I have it on my heart to encourage people in their journey with or towards God and just spread His love as I experience it in my walk with Him. I have already posted some more by now and would love it if you would stop by and follow my blog or spread the word. Thanks & God bless you all. Katja

    1. And I already have a question some of you might be able to help me with: how are the rules with using pictures of the internet. Is it enough to just mention the name / mention a photo credit of the site? I have one other post where I included a picture I found on Pinterest. Usually I try to find some from pages that offer free downloads but sometimes you just see one that is perfect for what you are trying to say on another site… any tips on how to do this right?

  5. Good morning, everyone – I started my blog on March 29 – here is a link to my first post: https://moosepoopacres.com/2018/03/29/life-after-facebook/ This post is specifically in regards to extricating myself from the Facebook platform and attempting to find an outlet in blogging; however, this is not the theme of my blog generally – it’s just a space where I can express feelings, thoughts, and experiences. I’m not sure yet if this is a good thing or a bad thing, as I’m still getting my feet wet in the blogging world. I don’t think of myself as a brand, and I’m not concerned about generating lots of traffic, but I do appreciate thoughtful feedback and criticism from others in the blogging community. Thanks, all!

      1. Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. I love to write. Yes! I think that, that is what we need more of today. Honesty. It is okay to struggle but it is not okay to go through it alone. We all need some uplifting at times. I do it so that maybe the people who read my posts can do it to someone else in return. I will keep in touch! God bless you!

    1. I really enjoyed your post! Your writing style is very unique and works well with your subject matter. Deja vu is quite the interesting topic! I’m going to have to go back and read it again because it had a lot of great thinking points! As for feedback, I would suggest using some spacing between paragraphs to break it up a little bit rather than large blocks of text. It makes it easier to read in my opinion. I can’t wait to read more of your work!

  7. What’s up everyone? Hope everyone is having a great day. So I’ve had my blog up for about four months now. I know the important thing is quality over quantity, but how can I maximize my views? Is there anything else I should be doing? I’d appreciate any feedback. I want to see my blog grow while staying true to the mission.

    1. Hi Gilberto,

The single most important thing you can do to attract readers to your site is to take genuine interest in other bloggers’ posts. Read carefully, post a thoughtful comment or pose some questions to generate a discussion. People are insatiably curious about the person who took the time to take an interest in them and they’ll want to reciprocate with thoughtful questions and comments on your posts. If you’re feeling shy or need a boost with some tips on how to do this well, we do have a free course you can take at Blogging University on Commenting Basics.

All the best to you in your blogging journey!
