First Friday

Brand new blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.
  • When commenting, avoid copying and pasting the same response repeatedly. It makes it look like you’re not really paying attention. Not to mention, it’s spammy.

      1. Your posts are beautiful. I literally mean it. Such beautiful poems. Keep it up and add an “About Me” page as people who’d love your posts (like me) would like to know more about the author. Keep it up! 🙂

      2. Hello, your poems look good. I am just wondering why at the top of your post, I see some html code. Something like the below “a href=”https://wordpress.com/dailypost/prompts/luminescent/”>Luminescent”. May Be you need to check how your site look in Preview. Keep up the good work! 😊

      3. Wow! You write great poems. Loved the one on mother nature. And the one on BFF also touched something in my heart. I write poems too…and it’s great to see a fellow poet who shares my love for rhyme.
        Happy blogging!!

    1. Hi Pia, the saying I say a lot is “Ok no prob!” Especially on Friday! I’ve been blogging for a bit more than a week now. I feel like I still need feedbacks.
Please people let me know what you think of my latest article https://wp.me/p9MErn-3z
My website is in French but I put a translator widget… Was it fun to read? Did it motivate you? Thank you so much!

    2. Hi Pia,

I so love your enthusiasm at First Fridays — you’re such a kind supporter of new bloggers! I do ask though that we keep the thread on topic — the question of the day has the potential to attract a lot of comments that aren’t relevant to our purposes here in helping new bloggers attract some readers and so I’ve taken the liberty of deleting it.

      All the best to you!

      1. I love your work and your site is lovely!
I would suggest adding a button to follow via WordPress rather than only being able to follow by email.
This may just be a personal preference of mine as well, but as much as I love your header image, it makes your visitors have to scroll a lot every time they visit a new page, which isn’t so fun.

      1. If you haven’t already and fancy, I would be grateful if you would check out my site. Leave a like or comment if you like, and if it strikes you and you hit ‘follow’ then you will make my day!

    1. Hi @Prayerson,

Per the guidelines in the post, we ask that bloggers post a single link to their site in each week’s thread. Note that any subsequent links will be deleted.

      Thanks for understanding!

      1. Well, you would look on Blogs I Follow. As luck would have it one posted last night – so search for Felder Rushing’s Blog. You can also search in the Reader using common tags that you would generally find, such as ‘gardening’, ‘garden’, ‘plants’, etc.

  3. Hi, what a fab idea. Mines “it’s better to regret something you’ve done rather than something you wished you’d done” along with “try it, what’s the worst that can happen” – that last one has lead to a few culinary disasters even the dog wouldn’t eat 😂

I’d love to make some new connections. If you’d like to follow me on my journey join me at https://whoisjosephinem.wordpress.com 🌺

      1. Welcome! Did you transfer your blog from another platform? Your blog is so well laid out and you have 569 followers!!

I like your design and the length of your post. And if you’re brand new to blogging, how’d you get so many followers so fast?? Need your secret :-).

      2. Thank you so much for the compliments!! I’m so glad you like it all! This is actually my first blog of any sort.

496 of those followers are Facebook and Twitter friends actually. I just tied my accounts all together so I could automatically post to them from here and it counted all my friends as followers. 🙂 I don’t think a lot of them see my posts on FB though unless I boost the posts with advertising stuff (which I am trying to avoid investing money into for the time being).

The rest of my followers though I have been participating a lot in the Community Pools and First Friday’s to meet and read other blogs. From there it kind of cascades down into a neat little network and people tend to get curious and at least check my blog out! For example, before I saw you commented I was browsing your blog!! I adore your name. Plus new blogging friends that way! I’m kind of just winging it honestly. 🙂

I really am thrilled you like it all!!

      3. It relieves my aching heart, given my 42 followers :-). I try to not get too concerned with # of followers, until I go read other blogs and see hundreds and thousands of followers, even with newbies.

        Breathe. Breathe.

        I just remind myself: write.

        Don’t worry about followers.

Thanks for explaining AND for checking out (and following!) my blog.

      4. I totally understand and do the same thing! I love and hate seeing follower counts lol. Your blog is awesome though so I’m positive you’ll get there. Be like Dory “just keep writing, just keep writing”!

    2. Awesome review! I’m going to have to give that book a go for sure.

For some reason your blog won’t let me comment or follow from my WordPress account. Not sure if it’s my device or your page causing the problem but figured I should let you know in case! I haven’t been having any issues with other blogs today.

      1. Yeah, I’m going to assume I did something wrong. Someone let me know I was missing a like button too. Comments were working last earlier this morning. I’ll have to look at it. I appreciate you checking it out though, everyone is super helpful here.

  8. Good morning! I’m so excited I found this little corner for saying hi and jumping in to the flow!

Last Sunday I started up a blog I’d been marinating on for a while. I missed last Friday’s first post so figured I’d jump into today!
My first post was kind of introductory and I have several planned out with pictures since it’s instructional based.

Love to get involved and have some feed back since I’m new to the blogging world! Hoping I grabbed the right link here:

    1. Hy Sahil! I checked out your blog. I love your post about religion especially the beginning quote (deep!?). However, I think your text size is too big,but if you feel you’d prefer it that way, then it’s okay! All the best💕

      1. That is weird. We’ve had this conversation before, and you’ve assured me it wasn’t on your end. I was surprised this one was even recognized as a link since I replaced the “.” with the word DOT.
It’s a bit defeating, but I know it has nothing to do with you.

        Liked by 1 person

      2. Well, I know. And when I posted that link today (multiple times) it just vanished, so I got creative and used the word “DOT” instead of “.”, so someone can edit the link when they need it.
