Community Pool

Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. Hello fellow bloggers!!! Here’s my latest post! My site consists of poems about love so if you’re a fan of love then it’s the place for you. If you’re looking for positive vibes it’s the place for you. I also recently published a book on Amazon and I can share the link to that also if anyone is interested. Thank you

    2. Well said! I’m a strong, independent, successful, confrontational woman who loves for my man to take charge and make decisions….because that’s the only time I don’t have to!! What’s my “label”? I’m with you 100%!

      1. It’s funny how my mother tried so hard to make me into an obedient, gentle & proper lady but I somehow turned out otherwise. Lol. Still she being one of the strongest women I know is one of my inspirations. Pls check out my recent post in honor of the women’s history month. Thanks.

    3. Wow, definitely a good read, and interesting view for sure! I’m all about “not being told/given, what I should be doing or do” but never thought about feminism in any other form. But you’re absolutely right, it’s all about our own choice!
And I’m with you, I’m the same emotionally, don’t like when people are mad with me. But I’ve come to terms with it and refuse to apologize for anything that isn’t my fault. And I’m happy with that, why, because like you said, it’s my choice! Thanks for the read!

  1. Hello fellow bloggers,

I hope you’re well. I’m still working on some new stuff, so (just like last week) I thought I’d share one of the old posts that I really enjoyed putting together. This is a photo-essay on Paris – trying to look at some of the famous sights from a slightly different angle…

    Paris: A Photo-Essay

As ever, I value your feedback immensely. Thanks!

    1. Those pictures are stunning. The first picture is my favorite but I also love the black and white pictures of the streets.

    2. Absolutely loved looking at this!! The pictures were amazing, I have always wanted to see this city, but this makes me want to even more. I love pictures and the life they can bring to things. Awesome job!

    3. You’ve got a nice contrast between what could be called the postcard-Paris (Notre Dame, Louvre, Arc de Triomphe) and the city people live in. The close-ups of the North and West façade are stunning for their intricate detail, but it feels a bit distant next to pictures of the Pompidou Center and the apartment building (?) with a mural and people milling around.

  2. Hello to all the readers and writers out here!

First of all, I just reached the milestone of 700+ followers! I am highly grateful for all the love and support my readers have shown towards me!

I love the art of poetry. It has always helped me express the best of my feelings in their strongest forms.

Recently, I wrote a poem titled ‘Truth Must Be Too Hazy’. It talks about how truth if suppressed, can reveal itself in the form of an inescapable catastrophe. I would love to know what you think about it!

    Here’s the link to it:

    Truth Must Be Too Hazy

Also, do you like to read/write poems! Let me know if you do!

Would be glad to receive feedbacks!

    With love,

    Meher

      1. Hi!
        Thank you very much!
        Nice question!
But, I am not exactly sure how to answer this…I started my blog in late 2016 and then in 2017 I took a really long break… So yeah, hope you get the idea!

    1. What a wonderful milestone, so quickly too! Congratulations!! 🎉❤️ I’m so close to 500, too, and can’t wait to hit it. Here’s to plenty more grand adventures for you, Jane! ~Kelsey

      1. I really liked your post, it was well written and presented. I couldn’t find a ‘like’ button though. Also, you’ve made it compulsory for people to fill in their details before commenting, I always advise against this as it will stop people from commenting on your posts. One of the joys of blogging is having chats with other bloggers, this puts up a barrier against such spontaneity.

    1. Your shoes post is LIFE!!! Ahhhh!! It’s so perfect and inspirational! ❤️ and I’ve only dabbled with sharing my stuff once and it was a bit weird for me lol I’m probably not the best person to give feedback!

      1. Yeah weird, but liberating, I’m getting more comfortable, and those are the post that get the most attention. Funny. Love your feedback, diversity is the point. Thankful. Smiley face cos I can not do emoji

    2. I re-blogged something last October when I was just starting out again after abandoning my blog for over a year (apart from one random post!). It’s had 3 views, the original has 41, so not a successful re-blog!
I’d add the link for you but I might end up the spammy link person this week and no one will like me, haha 🙂

    3. My blog is less than a year old (I started it last June or July. I can’t remember) so I have not reblogged. I cannot back this up with evidence, but I feel like if you start reblogging without may posts or followers that it is not going to work out well because your readers think you are just repeating old posts. If you posted something a long time ago and want to give your new readers a chance to see it I think that would be a lot more effective, but again, I have not proof. It’s just a thought.

    4. Funny you should ask. Yesterday I did a re-blog for the first time. It was a post I did last year about our experience during a three day power outage. Our weather yesterday reminded me of last year and when I reread my original post I discover some things that I could do to be better prepared if it happened again. I only had a few readers when I first published so I thought it might be worth it to post it again. Don’t know how it will work out but if it helps someone else then it is worth it. 🙂 https://donteatitsoap.com/2018/02/25/when-the-power-was-out-2/

    5. I really enjoyed this, and the campfire stories!! You really capture the moments and make me feel like I’m there. Thank you for sharing!! I’m just getting started so I do not have any experience with posting older stuff but I think it would be fun to try and do remakes later on.

      1. Hey welcome. I’m on the fence now re the old stuff having listened to everyone. Actually tipping towards just leaving it where I put it in the first place. Skipped over to you. Nice proud mummy post, makes it all worth while. I could not comment on your page as it took ages to load???? Maybe my computer but seems OK everywhere else.

      2. Thank you! I don’t know why it was taking forever to load but thank you for the thought of leaving a comment. I will look into the issue.

    1. Hi Simon. I like your writing. It’s very smooth. I wasn’t certain of the conflict in this story, so nothing felt resolved in the end. Otherwise, very readable. Thank you for sharing!

      1. Hello, thank you for your feedback. It was a ‘snapshot’ of a possible scenario, so as such there wasn’t an obvious air of finality.

However, if you understand what the story is alluding to (and there are some pretty big clues) then there is an explanation for future events, and, thus a sense of resolution.

  3. My blog came from watching a documentary on loneliness in which someone said they were ‘doing everything for everyone but had no one to do nothing with’. Whether you have few people in your life or feel lonely with the many you have, I want this blog to be a place for you to come and talk to a faceless friend. I talk about everything from the products you use to tv shows. I’m currently blogging about skin issues and doing watch-along-with reactions to Outlander, so people feel like they have someone watching with them.

  4. Good afternoon guys,

This year I’m challenging myself to watch as many movies that I haven’t seen before as I can. I’d like to beat last years total of 209 and so far this year I’m on 55 so it’s going pretty well. Any feedback on where I can improve would be very helpful or leave any movie recommendations for me to watch and I’ll try and check them out.

    1. Hi ! The content of your reviews is good yet you could try making it a bit more appealing to the reader. Adding pictures in between your posts or using bold words for important details or using italics would make it easier and more appealing for a casual reader.

Try watching Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049 if you haven’t. They’re both really good and have a spot in my favourite movies!

      Liked by 4 people

      1. Thank you for your feedback will keep that in mind for the future.

Weirdly enough my wife and I were going to watch Blade Runner over the weekend but didn’t manage to find the time. Hopefully we’ll be watching it some time this week.

    2. Wow!! 209! That has to be world record! Lol that’s awesome. It’s funny because I told my husband, I would watch scary movies this year, he loves them! I can’t stand them, but for him, I’m willing to endure the mystery/murderous/down-right creepy unknown scenes this year!
      Thanks for sharing!

  5. How is everyone at the start of a new week? I hope everyone is well! 😊

Over in my corner, I run a daily British English blog. You might be asking yourself “what does this American know about the Queen’s English?” And I admit, that’s a great question! Fast and simple answer: I love reading and get excited when investigating new words. Also, I have a loooong list. So I’m essentially like a dictionary, except my examples are creative through the mediums of poetry and flash fiction.

I started a new mini series today. Because I think some of my followers have forgotten that’s how my blog started lol. I’ve been in such a poetry mood recently. Feel free to check it out, please and thank you!

    1. What wonderful advice! I like nothing more than to read, but for those who need tips to read more–these are great! Especially keeping a book with you at all times. You never know when you’ll have a few minutes (waiting in a line somewhere, usually) to read–either on a device or the old fashioned way!

  6. Hello,
i’m trying to get back into blogging after my new job but here’s my reason for blogging:
I started my blog because I got scared of the fact everyone’s going to uni and starting their lives whilst i’m here on a gap year not knowing what I want to do. I thought I love to write and read so why not start a blog and so I got the courage too. I don’t know where this will go but im writing about travel, health and food so if you’re willing to give it a read.
I’d love that and to hear what people think. Hope you’re having a lovely day.

      1. Hello aroraankit11,
As a courtesy to other bloggers here, please only share a link to your post once, in your own comment where you invite others to provide feedback. In others’ comments, we advise everyone to keep the focus on the original request for feedback — that way people’s attention has a better chance of being shared fairly and equitably among the hundreds who participate here every week. On the flipside, when you plug a link to your blog on so many comments, you risk coming off as spamming, even when that’s not at all your intention.

Thank you for your cooperation and for participating in the Community Pool!

    1. You absolutely need to post in First Fridays (on friday funnily enough!!) It’s specifically aimed at new bloggers. I’d also definitely recommend the word press tutorials. I haven’t completed them all but I’ve found them really useful. Finally, do exactly what you’re doing! Interact with other bloggers and see what you like about others sites. Write!
write, Write, WRITE!! The more there is to read the more people will want to read and follow. Enjoy!!

I loved your first post and have left a comment on it!
Also, I noticed that you haven’t posted anything in your ‘About’ page. I would suggest you to update it! ‘An ‘About’ page which would talk about you and what your blog aims at, will help the visitors understand your blog better!

      Happy blogging!🍁

  8. Hello All!

While it was a brisk morning, it’s bright and sunny here in Ohio. I spied a groundhog crossing the road on my way into work (I sent my resume to a job recruiter last week, so hopefully this isn’t my job for too much longer). Perhaps it was in search for a mate, so Spring must be near!

Spring is a time of rebirth, cleaning out the old, and trying new things. Please read my post “I Wrote a Song Yesterday” (https://collectivecogitations.wordpress.com/2018/02/22/i-wrote-a-song-yesterday/), and let me know if you have had a similar experience!

    Thanks for stopping by 😊

    1. What a wonderful question! I have often wondered about similar inquiries. I am by no means fluent in Spanish, but I used to be pretty close. I would enjoy reading some of your posts in Spanish, though I most likely won’t understand all of the words.

    2. While the Daily Post publishes in English, we’ve on occasion seen bloggers asking for feedback in other language here in the Community Pool, with some success (depending on the language, of course — some are more popular than others). I think that posting a request for input on non-English blogs is totally fine, if you wanted to give it a try!
