Community Pool

Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.

Note: The Community Pool will be closed for maintenance next week (December 25). See you all in 2018!

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Hello to all the readers and writers out here!

Poetry has always helped me understand my own beliefs and feelings better. It has always helped me portray the strongest of feelings in their best forms.

I recently wrote a poem which talks about winter! Let me know what you think about it!

Also, do you like to write/read poems? Let me know if you do!

  3. Good day to all my fellow swimmers/waders/divers,
Today, marks nine months on the road crisscrossing America, in search of…!
The weeks have flown by, generating so much fodder for pictures and words.
Last week was unusual for its highs and lows, which I attempted to convey in my posts.
A visit with Dad on his 93rd birthday proved melancholy and bittersweet:

    Happy Birthday, Dad!

So I decided to lighten up and have some fun with a hike of a different kind:

      1. Your blog is perfect for aspiring bikers. It shows how much there is to see on 2 wheels. For now, I will stick to biking in the summer in perfect weather conditions on paved roads. Hahah. But you are definitely someone to look up to in the future.

    1. Your blog is informative, inspirational and brings the US to life. I am South African married to an American and we have always said that when we retire, we will travel the width and breadth of America. I think we will follow in your footsteps.
You write beautifully and your photos really capture the essence of your words.

      1. I’m delighted to have you along as we search for the special in an especially diverse landscape across my country. There is no higher compliment than your recognition of my work, for if it informs and inspires you, then I have made the ultimate connection, and for that I am grateful. It’s a pleasure to have you as a reader. Good luck and good health in the coming year and in your future retirement.

    1. Wow, that is an interesting story, Ida, a turning point in your life. He could have accepted your e-mail decision, I guess, and things would have turned out very different perhaps. The last paragraph was intriguing.

      1. Thank you! I’m so glad he didn’t. I can be very stubborn and inflexible at times, but luckily he can be even more stubborn. He also knows how to remind me that my feelings are important; that sometimes the reasonable thing to do is *not* the right thing to do…

  4. I love meaningful abstracts and also create some(not necessarily meaningful). This virtual space is going to be filled with articles on random topics (mostly unrelatable or out of any living person’s concern) and in case I am feeling a bit too artistic, then you may be able to witness some poetry too(not necessarily bounded by the rhymes). Anyways don’t bind yourself with any expectations.

  5. How’s everyone’s Monday going so far? Swimmingly I hope! 😅😁

I run a creative writing blog with daily posts, specifically about the British English language. Basically I post a word or phrase of the day, define it, and give an example. Unlike any dictionary definitions, my “examples” are the creative writing bits and are all original content.

Today I’ve started a new mini series. It’s a twist on superpowers.

Now I’m off to swim around and see everyone else’s blogs! All the best! 💫

      1. Thank you! Yes. I quite agree with you that reading people’s thoughts would be quite confusing because I think thoughts aren’t always coherent.

I loved this post. I left you a comment on your blog. 😀

    1. So interesting! Not a style of blog I thought I might be interested in, when I started reading I was attached to the tadpoles and wanted to watch them grow! Thanks for sharing

    1. I like your approach. I have never made formal resolutions for the New Year. I just make realistic challenges to myself, and usually in relation to the previous year. For example, this year I did not see much live music, so I want to change that for next year. It seems more realistic than ‘Lose 10 lbs, take up skydiving, write a novel…
PS, nice blog by the way.

    2. Great blog! I just finished making my New Years resolutions as well! Not something I usually do either but I figured I’d take the time to write down exactly what I want to work on and all of my goals I need to achieve! I went ahead and followed you😇

  6. Hi all!
I hope you had a great weekend.
For those of you I know, I look forward to seeing what you have to share today : )
For those who I don’t, I can’t wait to see what stories you have to tell! I myself write short fiction, draw, and ramble occasionally.
Here is a flash fiction piece I wrote this week based on a dream and a drawing I made of my husband and I as Harry Potter characters which I tried digitally:

  7. Hello Everyone,

This community is becoming an increasingly important part of my life. With that in mind (and whether or not you’re celebrating anything in particular over the next couple of weeks) – I’d like to wish you all the best over the forthcoming festivities – and I hope you all have a great year in 2018.

Thanks so much for visiting my blog, and thanks for all your feedback. Here’s an old post – showing one of the best contemporary buildings I’ve ever visited.

  8. Looks like it’s a small class for us in the pool today! Hi, all!

I’m soliciting feedback on the re-blog. I’ve been so busy with work, I haven’t had time to post much of my own stuff. However, I think there’s merit in setting up a reblog with a mini essay. Here’s my latest in the reblog introductory essay genre. What do you think?

I’d love feedback, and will be happy to check out your posts, too! Happy swimming. ~Rust Belt Girl (Rebecca)

      1. Oh, I can totally get you!
I haven’t yet read any modern retellings of Pride And Prejudice but, I do want to read Mr. Darcy’s Diary by Amanda Grange. And, have you heard about Pride And Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith?! Well, that’s probably one book I surely want to get my hands on!

    1. Good for you–a well-done collaborative site. Since you’re homeschoolers, I’ll be interested to see how that impacts your experience as learners. As far as blogging advice, I can only say that the “Pool” is a great place to start. Be sure to chime in here, connect, and discover new followers and followees. It’s really all about connecting–and it’s a lot of fun!
