First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. I love this first post!
I remember a while ago I had to remind my friend that it was okay to question things and even be mad at God. Things can be frustrating in his plan and it’s okay not to understand!

  3. Hello and welcome, new folks! We’re really excited to meet you.

As usual, I just want to remind everyone that we moderate the comments on First Friday pretty heavily — this is really a space for brand new people to introduce themselves and meet one another, and for others to welcome and support them.

If you’re not here to either share your (recent) first post or leave a supportive comment, please head to the Community Pool, which is where any blogger can seek feedback on any aspect of blogging. And if you’re not sure what the guidelines here are, please read the above post — or just ask!

    Happy blogging, y’all:)

  4. Hello to all-new bloggers; You know, it’s kind of a great feeling when you have been given the gift of the talent of writing, especially in this time of year; I have received that gift too, years ago, and so far I have been blessed by the fact that I am using this very precious gift today. I very much hope that you will use that blessed gift of writing wisely. Welcome! With love-JW

    1. Incredible! your post was very moving and thought provoking. I loved it. Your site could still use a little work in replacing the standard text with your own stuff. But I look forward to your future posts.

  6. Hello all!
I’m quite new to blogging, but glad I’m pursuing it to express myself. I’m very much interested in learning as well, so I’m not just here to share, but to learn a lot more from you all. Thank you in advance for your insights!

    1. Hi!
I read one of your posts and it was great! Also, I like the way your site looks!
One suggestion: maybe, you could change the background colour of your site to a bit lighter shade.

      All the best!🍀

  7. Hello fellow WordPress bloggers! I have been blogging for about two weeks now and I must say it is quite a rush! My first post can be read at

    Hello

which is more of an introduction piece than anything. But if you have the time I’d love any feedback on my other posts of poetry and short story (I have recently discovered the art of writing a Haiku so keep an eye out for those:) )
    Thanks a bunch!!

    1. One thing I noticed — you’re using a lot of tags and categories on some of your posts. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts, which is sad! If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers.

  8. It’s taken me a couple of months to feel I’ve understood what to do with my blog, so I’m counting myself a newbie here. My blog started from doing a creative writing course for the first time, in my fifties. I’m hoping there’ll be a gradual improvement in quality. It’s definitely experimental. https://ismidlifeliminal.wordpress.com/2017/12/06/adverbially-challenged/
Also hoping to find and follow others in this early stage of writing.

  9. Hi everyone! Brand new to blogging here =) I am still trying to figure out my way into the blogging world (I am having such a hard time adding the pictures where I want them to go!) but as everything, this will be a learning process! I have been working on my 3rd post and hopefully it will be live tonight! Any suggestions or feedback is very much appreciated!

    1. Hi,
I keep my photos simple. I click on them to reduce size by dragging towards the centre (explaining for the few that don’t know as lately seen HUGE photos, not yours) and do you notice that when you click on them you get the instruction box come up? You can click align left/right, centre there is also a caption box that you haven’t used – that might be your choice, but it’s there if you wish. I think individual photos look good with the captions underneath and then they can stand alone without the extra text you’ve written.
BTW that red sangria looked divine! 🙂

    1. What a tough time for you, good luck with everything. 🙂
I couldn’t see any tags or categories on your site. They are great for drawing search engines to you (max 15 combined) and also help you organise your posts and help readers select which topic they might be after. (For instance, I’ve a history blog and my categories include 18th and 19th centuries.
Do you use social media? You can customise your blog and add a side bar or footer and add these things at any time. If you play around with customise you can see the other things that you can do, also.

      1. Aaah thank you so much. I will definitely look into all of these, i think you’re right and playing around is the best way. Still getting to grips with how to use word press. Thank you very much though!
