Community Pool

Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Hello! Happy Monday folks! I wanted to share my blog with you all. I have been blogging since March. I feel like I’ve learned a lot in my almost 9 months of blogging. I definitely feel like I’ve hit my stride as a blogger. I blog about beauty and some other things. My blog is theupsideksb.wordpress.com. Hope you enjoy!

    1. I certainly don’t think it’s too busy. It’s vibrant and lively, and perfectly fitting to what you write about. I agree with C&W Authors: It definitely makes me want to go on an adventure somewhere!

    2. I think it looks great. I can scroll through the home page to find something I want to read, and it looked great on my iPad and on my phone. I loved your photos, too.

There were two areas in your sidebar that I didn’t understand: 1. The circle photos, which I tapped and saw they were photo galleries, and the squares, which are blogger Gravatars. Maybe label the sections since you have other sections on your sidebar labeled.

      1. Thanks so much for the feedback Aixa! I take on board your points about the photos – I had hoped I could link them to posts in some way, but if you can do it I haven’t found how yet!! I will also look to tidy up the sidebar and add some labels, I think that’s a very good idea! Thank you again, I really appreciate it!

  3. I was recently inspired to write a weird story. It’s called ‘Weird stories. Woman in the car’

Weird stories. Woman in the car

I do have some other weird stories that I plan on writing, they are quite short stories. Let me know what you think!

    I do have a question.
I want to add sub menu to my blog but I don’t know how. For instance, I’ve seen some blogs that have ‘menu’, and when you click that menu there are a list of topics for you to click on like Lifestyle, Reviews, Stories etc….and when you click on those topics it takes you to a separate page that lists everything under that category. Id someone knows how to do this, I would be really grateful if you could help me!

    1. Hi, to add your categories you must customise. I keep mine in the side bar, but I think other themes may differ. It’s quite simple (I managed to do it!). When you’ve customised and you have a category, you can edit a post and add it to a category or add the category as you publish.

      1. I would imagine categories should be there for all, but I don’t know for sure. If you have a side bar or footer you can add widgets and that’s where you pick up cats, archives, tags etc.

      2. Categories/ menus differ from theme to theme. Like for me, I have sections listed on top and then submenus go once someone hovers over them. However, others have one single Menu button and you go from there. But yes, “Customization” is where you need to go to play with it.

    1. The overall styling of your blog is incredibly satisfying. I’m normally more of a standard-post-format type of person, but I was completely infatuated with this creativity. It was unique, and interesting, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it!

    1. Wow. That post was definitely worth the read! I appreciate the purpose of your blog and your willingness to bring depression to the table in an understanding, open, and Christian manner. That combination is often difficult to find. I thoroughly enjoyed your blog, and I hope it continues to offer insight on such an important issue. Bravo!

    1. I’d say don’t worry too much about whether or not it works for other people. I read through your post, and the points seemed to be ambiguous enough that people will find a way to relate to it from wherever they are in life. All you can do is write about what you know and offer it to the world in the hopes that it helps someone who needs it. That applies to every topic- not just motivation. I very much enjoyed reading your blog. Keep up the good work sharing what you know!

  4. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m working on my memoir and at the request of some of my followers- I’ve posted a sample chapter from my book as today’s post! I hope ya’ll will check it out and let me know what you think!

There’s a chance I may post more samples as time goes on. I’m on track to be finished writing by Christmas/New Year’s and hope to publish in the Spring!

Or you can always follow along and enjoy my general nonsense as I navigate life!

    1. The only thing I suggest is that the first couple of paragraphs should hook the reader. I wasn’t “hooked” and one who has beta read for many authors this is something that is IMPORTANT, plus it’s what is going to hook the agent or publishing company and have them want to read more.

  5. Hi guys! I’ve just started a blog to document my journey through lifes struggles and how I work my way through them… particularly my struggles as a working mom, a christian, a professional, and just as a human in general! My intent is to be able to help people going through the same struggle, and to let them know they are not alone. We are in this together!

Would love some feedback 🙂 Just click on my name to take you there!

    1. I think the title of your blog perfectly fits the purpose you have in mind. I read your piece on “Love Warriors” and was captivated by everything you had to say. I very much enjoyed giving it a read, and I hope you blog’s positivity reaches everyone who needs it.

      1. Thank you so much! Your comment means a lot to me! Gives me hope that I am going in the right direction.

And I absolutely LOVE your page! From the visual design, to the posts. Keep up the good work! I can definitely relate to the level of anxiety you feel when starting a new adventure (college). And thats what gets me through… remembering that its an adventure! Good or bad, it will shape you into the person you are supposed to be!

Thanks again and keep it up girl!

To make it easier for people to check out your blog, pasting a clickable hyperlink here would be more helpful.
