Community Pool

Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  3. Good morning blog gang,

I know it’s Friday so you’ve probably all get better stuff to do, but I’ve recently started writing. I think I’ve got the correct skills to be a successful write but I’m struggling with a niche and building a following.
I’ve published two posts and I was looking for some feedback, as negative as possible so I know exactly where to improve.
Also I’ll accept some positivity too!

    1. While content comes first, size absolutely does matter – when it is too long a reader might be intimidated or feel that they are not able/willing to invest time into reading it. The length you have there is perfect, you could even go a little longer if the mood strikes you. =) nicely done!

      1. Thankyou so much for your feedback. It’s a bliss when readers can relate.
Many a time poems come to me in a spur of a moment while at other times, pieces are left incomplete.

  5. Hii!

This is my second post this week! I don’t usually post more than once a week. My first post was a ‘weird story’ which is somewhere in the pages of the comments. I asked a question there and found the responses very helpful! So thank you for this community! It’s just so overwhelmingly positive.

Unlike my first post, my second post is my reality right now.

It’s called ‘Diary of a Doctor’s Wife: Just Married and Alone

Diary of a Doctor’s Wife: Just Married and Alone (1)

I’m trying to find a routine that suits me for writing as I tend to go into bouts of posting and then silence for months. Life catches up eh?

I’m curious, for those of you regular writers, how do you do it!? I find it amazing!

  6. Hi everyone, I’ve been on wordpress a year now and I’m starting to get a few followers and people in all kinds of countries reading, but rarely likes and comments. Could you take a look and give maybe some advice on how I can open up more conversation with who I’m reaching out to? This blog post in particular was a hit but no-one commented. Thanks in advance.

    1. While my blog here is relatively new, I have had success drumming up conversation in others by asking questions. Your post tells a story, a fabulous tale of adventure and life, but if you want people to dive in, ask them (even rhetorically) what they think of something. ie have you had a feeling of conflicting sensations? hot and cold, wet and dry – its normally unpleasant right? well i can think of no better sensation than that of the cold night air meeting the circulating flame of my spinning hoop! (awesome pic btw). I hope that helps! Again honestly, I love everything you have here so I wouldn’t change a thing. It’s your life you’re writing about, do you really want input or to share a wonderful existence? (LOL ends in an engaging question)

  8. As a 26 year old, Harsh had an exemplary life, with all his desires at his footsteps. But, as time changes, people change, situations change and priorities change. Harsh is now going through this phase of change where his life and the lives of people closest to him, are affected drastically, because of some bad choices he made. That night continues with another chapter that will unveil us with some more secret events. https://curiousmindsthinkalike.wordpress.com/2017/12/08/that-night-2/

    1. I absolutely love the theme and set up of your blog. Your posts are fascinatingly scary and give me the shivers every time I read them. If you want something to scare people (or at least me), I would say make a post about spiders. It is a very simple subject, but you can come up with so many things around it.
My blog includes photos taken by me and stories written by me. Since you have a very creative effect on your blog, I was wondering if you could take a look at it and give some suggestions as to how to make my stories more compelling? Thanks so much.

      1. So I looked at a bunch and I absolutely love it! And let me tell you the artistry in which you write is one of my most favorite things. While I have been told this particular taste of mine is that of the few, it is; deep, poetic, and hopelessly romantic. And by romantic I mean in the sense of passions and life, not exclusively to the love of an individual. I love it! In terms of making it more compelling, that depends on what you want to do. Since your writing is open-ended, and that’s not a bad thing at all, it leaves a lot of unanswered questions. That is poetic and romantic – compelling in its own! But if you are looking to do more with it, you could easily turn any one of these moments into a short story and truly make something remarkable. Whatever you decide to do, keep writing, it is absolutely wonderful!

  9. I started my blog around two months ago and post a minimum of once a week. My blog has photographs taken by me and snippits of stories that I write. I would love it and really honestly appreciate it if you could check it out and give me some feedback to improve it. And maybe even continue the story yourself then send it me. Or you can just give me ideas of how you think it should continue. My blog is called The Story Album and here is the link to it: https://lifethroughacameraorg.wordpress.com/
    Thanks so much!

  11. Hi! I’ve been in WordPress for quite a while now but it’s only recently that I’m writing more. I write about anything – from my thoughts to my travels. I started the blog because of a class requirement but I’m continued because I wanted to expand my horizons and for fun, actually. I only just came across this post so I thought it’d be nice to get feedback on how I can improve. Thank you!
